I have to agree. I have a 123 in the 356 and I really wish I'd had one in the 911. I spent a load of money on distributors, trying to sort intermittent problems with my 2 litre engine.

Look at how much they cost. :)

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Original-Bos ... Sw3zFb5IDc

I bought them from the States, sent them back to the States to be rebuilt, had their advance curves checked and re-checked....

In the end it was the carbs that were the problem..

A 123 dizzy would have been a known known and made the detective work a bit more straightforward.

Fitted in my 356 the 123 distributor has improved the running no end. No points gap to worry about, no dodgy condenser to worry about and no spring tension/shaft wear to keep me awake at night. Highly recommended.

And so to perpetuate the thread my recommendation is Garry at Visualfx for trimming my seats.

Don't let the apparent newness fool you, the seats are beautifully upholstered and are wearing in very nicely.

An enjoyable experience with a professional specialist. Highly recommended.

If I get one, will it make me a better person?
Or is there some sort of niceness assessment before one can join the club?

The fact that you want one IS the niceness assessment.

Ah yes. Makes perfect sense now.
The mere aspiration to join your tribe of beatific creatures, blissfully content with understated pace and drum brakes, must be enough.

BTW Jeremy, since we move in different circles (less nice, in my case), I'm not sure I've had a chance to mention - I absolutely love your 356, one of my all-time favourites.

Thanks, that’s very nice to hear. Understated pace yes, although lightly tickled, but not all correct - discs on the front!

Well here's something nice :) ......

...a 4:30AM start for me today and a reminder of why I've truly enjoyed my restorations....a run up to The Lakes to drop off my gearbox to rectify a minor leak by one of the best Porsche specialists this country has to offer.....wonderful to catch up with Mike Bainbridge at MB Engineering and talk a bit of Porsche....

Image

....one of nicest and most sound specialists you could ever hope to meet in our small community and the first I ever spoke to when setting out with my restorations.....I'll always be thankful to Mike for offering sound advice and pointing me in the right direction....better still he's built me two of the sweetest (and highly different) 915 gearboxes imaginable and is helping me out with a couple more! 8) .....also good to see Mike devoloping a few of his own products like specialist bearing retainer plates and transmision covers....

Image

....he even now has a few letters after his name.....

Image

....I guess next time I visit I'll be calling him 'Sir Mike' :P

Cheers,

Nothing wrong with being weird, means you can get away with a lot more!
