Anyone know Bovey & Son back in 1965
Just diggin' for an Australian friend. Does anyone know where Bovey & Son had their garage business. A 911 was ordered by them June/July/August in 1965 and it was given the registration ECL 44C. Subsequently it went to Australia.
Can anyone help? Did they work with 356's?
Ian

Bovey and Son do not come up as a 356 dealer on any of my lists.
All UK cars came through AFN in this period, is it possible that the company is buying the car from them?

Yes, the car in question did come through AFN, they all did, but some of the cars were supplied to dealers, one car went to Parker and Parker in Kendal etc..

Absolutely. However, unlike a dealer like Parker and Parker etc I can find no evidence of Bovey and Son buying any cars. Which is why I think they are probably a company buying a single car from AFN for their own use or maybe for one of the directors/owners rather than a dealer.LGK6D wrote:Yes, the car in question did come through AFN, they all did, but some of the cars were supplied to dealers, one car went to Parker and Parker in Kendal etc..

Yes, I think that happened a lot. Ian's own car was sold through Unity Motors in Edinburgh, I'd bet that was also a single car sale.Hendrik Moulds wrote:Absolutely. Yes Hendrik my 356a went through AFN in 1959 who ordered it on the factory but it went to its first owner Jack Barclay who was the owner of Jack Barclay the London sports car dealership. He had it for about 6 months. He then must have sold it on through his own car sales dept. I have advert of his where he had several 356 cars up for sale in the early 60's. The AFN paperwork I have says at the bottom ''supplied through to Barclay'

Re: Anyone know Bovey & Son back in 1965
Yes, my car came through Unity Vehicles (Edinburgh) who seemed to act as the Scottish 'agent' before Glen Henderson (Glasgow) were appointed in 1976/8. The Unity business, owned by Gustav Wulfle, certainly catered for Porsche cars at the time and was mentioned in a Porsche Post article many years ago.
It was this article that prompted me to ask if Bovey had dealt with 356s.
I think we have come to a dead end on this quest.
Thank you all for your input.
