356 Pininfarina??

Post by vandamme »

Has anyone ever heard of a Porsche 356 Pininfarina?

Car comes up on auction, looks like a poor copy 356 Abarth.
Some Pininfarina badges stuck on it.
The quarter windows seem filled up and some air scoops added.
leather hood straps on it.
4 exhaust pipes, just looks wrong.

Some stickers indicating some kind of recent Road race event in Vienna in 2006-2009. (which adds zero to a car with actual pedigree).

Google fu reveals the car was in austria, and not sporting any stickers in 2015
No hoodstraps then either.

The papers show it's a 1964 built by Reutter, so what would Pininfarina have to do with it?? Has anybody ever heard of such a thing?

It all sounds so vague and BS like, there doesn't seem to be anything to back up this car as having any real pedigree.

Why would a car that started out as a BT6 (wheels, hubcaps, drum brakes, no ashtray beneath the radio panel) be advertised with a build date of 1964?

I don't know enough about 356 model years myself, I just find it weird that there is nothing anywhere about Porsche + 356 + Pininfarina, other then links to this particular car being for sale.

The auction shows it as having these papers :
Image

So on top it says built by Reutter
and below it says special remark, built by Pinifarina.

I mean , whot?

I also think that Pinifarina script is not typical for 1964, If i look for early 60ies Ferraris with Pininfarina badge, it's a different one.

The one on this 356 looks more like PF badges of the 50ies.

The entire car and it's presentation just feels dodgy to me.
Like somebody making up pedigree to make a fast buck.

The graphics seem to suggest it’s a Porsche Museum car. A quick word with them should verify if it’s special or fake.

Already sent out word to them, the car did not have Porsche Museum stickers when it was driving around in 2015 by the PO in Vienna
It has come up on auction in Germany before, now in Belgium and between 2015 and the auctions, it suddenly gained all them stickers and a leather hood straps.

I would think IF there was a true one off Pinifarina car
Then the Porsche Museum would not buy it between 2015 and now, and sell it again , with stickers added.

I would also think they would not be amused if somebody tries to sell off a car with fake Porsche Museum stickers added.

The VIN, engine #, and registration date are all correct for a 356C. The gas tank is also 356C. Suspension could have been backdated, but that is a weird thing to do.

Clearly it's not original at all, that's not the main question at this point.
Headlights, exhaust, quarter panels, none of it is original.

The real question is whether or not this "356 Pininfarina" has any merit at all
or if this it a scam to sell it for more money then it's worth.

Pininfarina was a coachbuilder, so naturally the body would have been changed; that was the whole idea.
Not saying that this is a legit car, but there is the possibility.

Typically PF made complete bodies, not making small modifications on existing ones.
And To be honest , It's not a great result if you ask me. Especially those quarter panels and scoops look half assed ot me..

Look at 1964 cars by Pininfarina, and you get some of the most beautiful car bodies ever made.
great lines, corves, nothing is out of place. They don't look like an after thought.
