Robster new project...
Hi chaps,
I am embarking on a new project for the Robster mobile.
Engine is 2.7 (1975)
Could you tell me...
1) can I use the standard distributor with vacuum advance disconnected if using carbs instead of the CIS injection?
2) Has anyone out there got some good used matching pair of weber 40IDA-3C or are the PMO carbs the only option realistically available these days?
3) Where is the best place to get inlet manifolds for carbs..?
Best regards
Robster

Cheers Darren,
should make for even more fun! Thanks for the heads up on the carbs, I will check them out.
I know my Type 4 vw engines, but 911 engines are a bit more of an unknown quantity so I hope you will all be patient with my questions over the next few months!
I'll keep everyone posted of my progress, and I hope to create a 911 into 914 document for people to use (and learn form my experience..)
best regards

Robster,
Tere is an alternative to Distributors and Carbs, depends how adventurous you feel. I intend to go EFI with my motor once back on the road, Using a Ford EDIS-6 distributor less ignition system and Motorbike throttle bodies. Just a thought if the carb idea gets a little conventional
Cheers
Tim

Go for it Rob your car will be even more awesome then it is now. Are you going to upgrade the brakes too?
Looking forward to your build up information. Let us know where you will post it on the board mate.
Darren, there is a project we could do next year buddy! You have a nice 2.4 sitting round gathering dust don't you?

Hi Viv,
Good to hear from you!
I hadn't spotted that there was a meet - I'll check that the 'other half' doesn't have anything up her sleeve, but otherwise I'll be there!
It might be in the company hack though as the 914 has no heating. I'm not soft, but I have no means of keeping the windscreen from fogging up!
Best regards
Robster
