Can’t beat a car that’s so gone it doesn’t actually look like the car it actually is

A $13k chassis number l guess.
Why is it that 356s in the US are all so damaged?
Look at the ones on the racks.

Why would anyone buy that with "no warranty " ( although probably worth more than warranties given by some UK dealers !)

It's standard fare in the USA to avoid law suits, even on fairly new used carssng45 wrote:Why would anyone buy that with "no warranty " ( although probably worth more than warranties given by some UK dealers !)

I can’t explain why they are quite so bashed about, but I bought my 59 as a semi-wreck from the USA and tried tracing the previous owners.911hillclimber wrote:A $13k chassis number l guess.

I got a heartbreaking 9 page letter back from a woman in Dallas who said she was in tears remembering how she and her husband had fallen for my 356 when it was still running, but in a very sorry condition.
They fully intended to get it repaired, but life, children and whatever thwarted their plans. I suppose 356’s were expensive to work on, and of course didn’t then have the value in them for any likely return.
Also it seemed to me that the ‘dry state’ cars claim can be a bit of a myth. Condensation is caused by extreme changes of temperature exactly as found between night and day conditions in American southern desert regions. Given the 356’s propensity for rotting, to keep a car safe in those areas, you’d have to be a pretty diligent owner.
