Solid, non sun-roof 911 roof

Post by 911hillclimber »

I'm seeing if anyone has a roof skin off a 911 aircooled please.
Don't really want the whole roof but the top skin to use as an infill to a very large square hole in my car currently fitted with a cloth sun roof.
The skin needs to be almost the whole skin from windscreen recess to rear screen recess, rain guttering to rain guttering.

This pic gives you an idea of the size I need:

Good call and hope it comes through!

Regardless of whether this is a consideration, I think it'll add at least as much value as the cost. Nothing looks better or more pure than a coupe imho, although this is a coupe, sort of  , but not pure!

My controversial statement of the weekend.......Simple truth is that it's how sports cars were designed from the outset....any change was to appeal to the market.....who do you trust more, original engineers or the enthusiast.... :bounce:

It was in 1989 when I opened the distorted roof (it had a UK aftermarket tilt sunroof hacked into the car when I bought it) up for the fabric roof.
Old 911's were not 'hot' then and interest was just growing.

I quite fancy the challenge of letting a panel in.
I inserted a Volvo estate roof panel into my first hot rod in 1977, a gas weld length of 16 feet!
But I was very young then...

I hope I can find one from a previous restoration or river bed. :)

Another option, since you have a cage: EB motorsport do a composite roof panel. Might be worth a look?

I also have a complete roof from an early 911 however being in Belfast wouldn't help I suppose. The thought had crossed my mind that as you don't need any of the openings or gutters that it should be reasonably easy to have a fabricator make one on an English wheel, the shape isn't complex.

Check the video on his website as he make the rear part of the roof for Delwyn's Pre-A from scratch...
