Cibie Pallas - my most sheepish question ever?
Hi all
I've recently purchased a pair of these (Eric Linden's) reproduction, which should be close to 100% original.
I'm struggling to open these up - I'm being very cautious as they're expensive and relatively fragile.....
What is the technique and what is it that I'm obviously missing
Many thanks

I didn't know Eric was reproducing the Pallas lamps but on the originals you remove the chrome rim by gently pulling the 'tab' at the bottom outwards.
There is a retaining 'tongue' at the opposite side of the rim which locates in a corresponding slot in the lamp housing:

Thank you Andy!
Once I plucked up enough courage to yank the tab it became crystal clear! 60 seconds to open and dismantle entirely! Yes I do feel a little sheepish....
BTW it is Eric's product - looks lovely quality!
Cheers

I don't know if he' still making them but René Kremer in the Netherlands also used to make very accurate replicas of the Cibie Pallas lamps & also the metal lamp covers ...

Re: Cibie Pallas - my most sheepish question ever?
Thank you.
I would really like a pair on my 911 after the impending re-paint, mounted on the front wings adjacent to the head lights, hence the question.
Would prefer replicas not originals.
Graham.

Hi Graham
Just finished mounting today, in same position as you suggest. I think it looks great, have wanted these for years but they're so damned expensive it's taken me ages to "sell" to myself!
I haven't compared to other replicas but Eric's look fantastic quality (and he does have a track record for this).
I'll post up a piccie!

Have a look - without stating obvious this mounting leaves little latitude between bonnet edge, headlights and the little grilles where downward facing "opening" tab at the bottom of the light interferes. I actually ended up gently bending the tabs such that they face forward and not backward.
Drilling holes in my car never feels a relaxed affair and was, somewhat embarrassingly to admit, worsened by me having to enlarge to get perfect position!
PM me if you have any questions etc?

They look great!
The positioning will be critical, but look perfect on the wings.
Thanks for the picture.

Carbone are selling Pallas now. They describe them as "Original Cibié Pallas headlights", but I assume they mean "Repros of the..."

An expensive way to alter (obstruct?) the view form the driver's seat!!
The covers on their own are $160, which may be a good option for anyone just wanting those.

Shell, rim and glass will do nicely.

Easy to wire in and make such a difference I can't see why you'd have dummies as opposed to working lights911hillclimber wrote:I was thinking of doing mine as dummies as I rarely go out at night.....

Re: Cibie Pallas - my most sheepish question ever?
Those car-bone ones look suspiciously like Eric's, and I must say they're fantastic quality which is not something one can say about modern reproductions of anything very often!
I've not yet wired mine in but will do so when I have the time. I might even look at an LED replacement bulbs to take less current through the headlight bights/dip switch, which is where it makes most sense (apparently).
BTW I didn't find that they obstructed anything really - I quite like looking at them dancing around the road . Maybe just because they're shiny and new...….
