Damage during shipping - Insurance Claim Advise
Looking for some advise, just received my 911 from the shippers and the inerior has been attacked by mold, seats, door panels etc etc
Anybody else ever suffered this type of damage whilst importing and how did the insurance handle it?
Paul

Is it possible that there is a leak? The car was cleaned before it was handed over/shipped and water got into the cabin?
This happened on one car I shipped, could not understand the mold but after I cleaned the car when it arrived, discovered water was getting into the cabin.

Where was the car shipped from? What was the weather like when it was loaded in the container? It gets hotter than hell itself inside shipping containers and if a car is loaded in damp or humid conditions (east coast?) then it will sweat like crazy inside the container.

Car was shipped from Houston to the UK, car was bone dry when it was collected, however another car in the same container also suffered mold issues.......

Being near the sea, I had been told by a Texan that Houston was known for being humid. Houston cars are prone to rust..
Re: Damage during shipping - Insurance Claim Advise
Houston is very humid, having been there a number of times I know that first hand, fortunately the car wasn’t from Houston and doesn’t suffer from rust!!

But the air trapped inside the container when it was closed up was possibly laden with moisture. Hope you get it sorted.

Won't it just clean off? I've cleaned plenty of mouldy cars back to being fine again. In this weather it ought to dry to dust quickly enough, hoover it off then wet vax everything.

I was thinking the same as Sam, now that the car is out of the container and able to breath again it should clean up quite easily, especially if it’s on vinyl interior components.

There was certainly another that I've seen that was damaged by damp and or water ingress in shipping. Not sure if it was same one mentioned here, or not.
As some of you know I helped my dear friend Chris Turner for fun part-time over a number years and was there when 911 arrived at his workshop on transporter. Mould, paintwork damage and tarnishing etc from humidity and or seawater ingress during shipping, apparently Also there when insurance assessor came and inspected it and work agreed.
That 911 had been "fully restored" in USA!?
I shan't reveal details of car out of respect for privacy of the owner and others involved. I know the top class folks here in UK who did first rate work redoing things properly including sorting out that shipping damage, they know the full details but I'm sure they will be modest/discrete. Saw it when it was all sorted out.
Hope it gets resolved smoothly for you.
Best
Steve

We advise everyone to go to the docks when your car is collected
That is the time to check the car over and make your claim
