We now need to hear from Rob911/356 as to whether the identification details of his 911 S correspond with the details which you have provided.

Has another car from the show which took place 50 years ago been located? :)

Arfor.
Hi Arfor,
Yes the details Ian posted do match my car, so looks like it was one of the show cars, I have wondered for a few years whether it was.

I have a copy of the original printed AFN card, which shows the registration as OGJ 1E, I had assumed it must have been a private plate from first registration.
By 1975 the registration number had been changed, so I assume the car was sold and the plate stayed with the original owner.

"This took us to the small stand occupied by Porsche, where we were glad to see H. J. Aldington about again. Centre of attraction was a Dunlop-shod competition Porsche coupé in Targa Florio colours, carrying No. 224. A Porsche 912 in funeral black and dark-tinted glass contrasted with the bright tones of the other exhibits. We were told that the biggest demand is for Bahama Yellow, and W.B. thought perhaps this is because those who have missed getting patches in the Bahamas console themselves with a Bahama-hued Porsche in the suburban garage. A 911S with door pockets, small steering wheel and a wiper for the back Window which D.S.J. says he finds unnecessary on his E-type with its electrically-heated glass, was inspected"
From further research I am pretty sure the "Dunlop-shod competition Porsche coupé in Targa Florio colours, carrying No. 224" on display at the show was Vic Elford's winning 907 from the 1968 Targa Florio.

A little off topic I know but just found this, a pic from my first Earls Court Motor Show. The 1968 in the top right corner is misleading as I think that's Jackie Stewart's 1971 World Championship winning Tyrrell 003. I'm guessing it's on the Ford stand celebrating the DVF, which was introduced for the 1968 season, so the 71/72 show perhaps?

Did a bit more research and definitely 1971, I was at art collage and coming up to London for gigs. I think that time was Fleetwood Mac at the Orchid Ballroom Purley, or was it T-Rex at the Fairfield Halls Croyden.......
cheers, Mike.

Would be great to have a thread of pics and other details of the Porsche stands at old motor shows, particularly UK motor shows. I have nothing to contribute sadly, other than the initial idea!

Of the three 911's on display at Earls Court during October, 1968, the 911 E is still proving elusive...

Registration number VYE 7G. The car was originally a Sportomatic, so maybe that will narrow down the field somewhat.

The car has a current MOT and is taxed.

It would be great to get the three cars (S, E, T) together again.

There will be a short article by Ian McLeod (on here) in the next issue of Porsche Post.
