Thinking of selling my 912 - to do or not to do

Hi all,

Just after a bit of advice really after having my 912 stored since I bought it I am now coming to the realisation that due to some financial but mainly time constraints I am probably never going to get it restored and back on the road.

So my question is do I move it on now or hold on to it, and also what would be worth now ?

It needs a full resto but it’s all complete no parts missing, and very low miles 1968 RHD UK car, I bought it from the one and only owner who had it from brand new.

Any pointers welcome !

Ask Max at Revival Cars he'll help you out. Time, we can all do nothing about, but money, if you need some cash, sell it. Its only a car and something pretty that looks nice but never will get driven, will only drive you mad.

Well I very nicely restored 68 RHD could be £40k? It could cost you £20-40k to restore? Some photos are always useful.

Yes I can see restored cars are climbing, plus it has some added sentimental value as my neighbor owned it from new, and it took many many years for me to finally get it, but then again why not let someone who could actually put it back on the road have it, very complicated!

Tough call and something only you can decide really. Do you think you would regret selling it and immediately want another? or are there other things you want to spend the money on? if you think it is the time/cost of the resto which is the issue here maybe it would be a good move to sell and then buy a roadworthy car which you can enjoy now?

On the other hand low miles RHD cars don't come along often so if this is what you're into then probably don't sell it, chances of finding another will be quite slim.

Yes definitely would not find another, been stood up at my neighbors since the 80s when I used to walk past it going to school and dreaming of one day owning it, I guess it’s hard to also put a value on such a car aswell

Prices are bit heated at the moment and that may not sustain, so if you’re inclined I’d do it.

As someone who’s been into vintage and Classic cars since the sixties, my advice is not to be sentimental. All old cars are crap compared to modest moderns, so you don’t need anything fantastic and recent to realise life can be so much easier.

The real value of old cars is in the friends you make, the trips with loved ones and the memories they bring back. All of which work better if you no longer have the car.

I’m playing devil’s advocate, but if you can’t afford another 912 a Boxster is a million times better and dirt cheap by comparison.

As someone who’s recycled plenty of nice old cars, I’m bias, but say move it on.

It’ll give someone else the chance to bring it back to life. The cost of restoration means it’s unlikely to make a profit. Some it’ll go to someone that isn’t going to flip it.

Buyers remorse can be cured...

Hi yes added the car but not the plate, yet, keeping it off the radar so to speak, for now
