MFI setup, rebuild and Calibration
Does anyone have any detailed set-up and calibration specs, production tolerances etc that would be needed to operate an MFI pump rebuild service ? Having chatted to a few over the weekend, it seems that a good UK based service could see a good level of work.
Well worth setting up a test bench for.
This is not something I can do, but one of our engineers at work is just the fellow to take a look at this.
No promises yet, I'm just looking for information. Any pointers ?
Many thanks
Tim

Re: MFI setup, rebuild and Calibration
Hi Tim
I am half way through this process already. There seems to be a few people out there who have done this for themselves but have no intention/inclination of doing any commercial or even friendly DDK service at a reasonable rate. I have been gathering info. off all of them and putting it all together at some point. I think Alan UK is also gearing up to do this too.
There is a ton of info. out there and it is a case of time and getting the bench set up running (along with other associated checks like injector testing which I have already done).
Like everything else it will take longer than first envisaged no doubt but at least the project is moving forward.
Regards
Mike

Re: MFI setup, rebuild and Calibration
Ive read this thread with interest, especially seeing as I now have a MFI pump problem. As per Mike, I noticed yesterday after having a poke around early 911/ pelican forum & DDK that Alan UK is indeed offer a MFI pump rebuild service as per a thread on Pelican.
Reading the link that James ha spot up, it doesnt look a easy thing to do

Re: MFI setup, rebuild and Calibration
Tower Bridge Diesel appear to be the experts on the pump, you might talk to them - they seem friendly!
They have some expensive testing kit as well as years of expertise. They have just done a recalibration of the pump on my 1969 E and done a good job.

Re: MFI setup, rebuild and Calibration
Whilst my engine is out I may as well get my MFI refurbished. Did you get any further with this Tim or is it Tower Bridge Diesel or another?

Re: MFI setup, rebuild and Calibration
Is it broken? If working fine, perhaps consider getting it (and the injectors) tested first, by someone with the calibration data for your particular pump.
If it conforms to spec, you might prefer to leave well alone?

Re: MFI setup, rebuild and Calibration
I have used Michael Burgess on two occasions. Once for a strip, clean and calibration and once for a total refurbishment and upgrade to an ST specification. Has a flow bench set up and always insists you deliver your fuel injectors so that he can check flow and dispersal patterns. Very knowledgeable, friendly and owns a LWB 911. He restores MFI pumps for a number of well known Porsche concerns.

Michael Burgess will also restore fuel pumps.

Re: MFI setup, rebuild and Calibration
Fred at tower bridge diesels have been doing this for years -- several generations iirc. Probably forgotten more than most "new pretenders" on Bosch mfi will ever know. Not sure they're as active these days seemed to be easing back a little when I last spoke w/ him.
