More progress, this time with the Big Weld. The rear of the car is now one piece, sills are attached, doors hung, and the front is ready for welding. A few of us visited last Friday to discuss a bunch of details and make decisions. Talk about one happy owner....

It's surprisingly roomy inside, with a great view down the bonnet and between the wheel arches. You sit a lot further forward relative to the wheels than in a 356 or 911, so it's going to feel strange driving the car to begin with I expect. Door handles are simple push buttons from a VW bus, with notches in the rear quarter panel for two fingers to slide behind the now slightly ajar door....

More late January when we there will be more significant details to report on....

it's just you Al, it just the angle of the camera and the fact that the car is up on axle stands - it looks fabulous in the flesh :)

Yes, going to have to get used to a permanent grin Andy. feels very race car inside: compact, no frills, and purposeful... all good ingredients.

If ever there was a car that deserved a DDK launch party a la Mike's RSR - then this is it !!

Looking forward to seeing it on track.

Thanks Sanjay. Yes a fair number of people have been involved with this car and it's been such an epic build it feels right to mark its birth. I'm hoping the original VW/Porsche dealership in Surrey that the original builder owned will be up for recreating the day David Small drove it. Perhaps we could get a bunch of period cars: 356, VW Beetles and buses to Colborne Motors and celebrate there?

Hi Keith, yes have been in touch with them and also Davids son who is keen to see it when it's finished. I often think about whether he would approve of what we're doing - a good reference point for keeping the car period correct.

Yes car will be road legal: it needs an MOT for some of the race series we're planning to race in (well as far as is clear today given the new MOT rules for historic vehicles...)!
