356A Glovebox key code from VIN

Is this possible? Got the ignition/door keys cut & working but no glovebox key.

VIN is 106920.

Its correct, the glovebox lock is separate from the doors and ignition. The glovebox key is from HUF and mine has the number C27. I know I had spares from another 59 car and the keys were the same number! My chassis 106954 not so far from yours. Another guy had the same problem so I gave my spare to him. Shame I don't have another!!

It might have been me that Roy gave his key to. I just took the lock and key to a lock smith. He made the lock work wit the key. Cost about £10.

I had a glovebox key made by a locksmith for about £20, but that was before I spent some time trying to figure out the idiosyncracies of Porsche locks. The glovebox lock mechanism comes apart fairly readily, and if you can get a blank, then a little filing and tinkering will make you a working key, just be methodical, and keep on trying the fits of everything.

The gearshift lock on the other hand is properly tricky because it is locked in both positions, locked open, or locked closed, which means that in order to take it apart, you have to pick it, and it is very well made, with 6 pins, and some rather tricky warding in the lock that prevents getting much purchase on the pins.

The simple way to open it up is to mill off the brass top of the lock barrel where the springs are, and then extract the pins and knock the middle out, but to me, that is an invasive and ugly way to do it, but it would be effective.

I have two gearshift locks, both without keys, which have defeated 2 locksmiths so far. I have been playing around with picks trying to get them to open, but no luck so far, even though I bought a DIY pick kit from Ebay, and have been fairly successful wit most other cylinder locks I have tried.

I will persevere, and eventually it will happen.

You are correct the Gear Lever lock is the really difficult one
However, PRS have new keys cut for every used lock that come into stock from whatever source or for whatever lock

We can also arrange to have a key cut for customers locks, if you prefer.

This is NOT carried out the bodger`s way - by finding any old key that fits and just filing the lock Pawls to suit that key. It is proper lock-smith`ing
