914 headlight motor / wiper motor

Post by Dean.s »

I have a problem with my passenger side headlight motor, it won't raise but will lower after having been manually raised. Anyone know what this is?

Secondly, wiper motor is not working. I have 2 switches and neither are triggering the motor. What is the best way to test the motor?

Are either of the above motors serviceable?

Hi Dean
I presume you have checked the fuses, It's unlikely to be the motors so would suspect h/lamp relays located next to each motor.
As far as the w/w motor again would start with steering column switch which is a common fault.

Most common reason that the headlight motor doesn't rise the light is down to a faulty relay which is found under the plastic cover by the motor.

To check if it is the relay swap it over with the relay on the other side to see if it now rises.

I tried the swapping of the relays and there was no change. Other light works normally.

This problem whereby the light bucket would not rise but would lower after manually winding it up. I used a check from pelican parts to jump between 87 & 30 in the relay socket (without the relay fitted)

This should jump the motor into a constant raise / lower mode in order to check the motor. It worked the motor perfectly. However when I now refit the relay it blows fuse 12 (16 amp) straight away.

This never happened before and yes I removed the jumper wire first.

Any help with this?

If you remove the relay and replace the fuse, then manually wind the headlight motor into a different position, does it still blow the fuse when the relay is pushed back in?

After 3 more blown fuses it turned out to be a bad relay. Strange how it didn't blow before but that's how it goes I guess.

Are your 914 headlights now raising and lowing in sync?

They are now both in sync. I used a relay from the engine board that was redundant. Also needed 1 groove adjustment on the motor arm but now they're all good.
