Doune Hillclimb 17/18th June, up in the frozen North........

Post by jwhillracer »

It's our first trip to Doune, I've been threatening to go there for years, but have never quite plucked up the courage before............
It's a full MSA British National and Leaders Championship round, so most of the top drivers in the country will be there, plus a few also-rans like me...................
It would be good to see any of you that can make it, I'm sure that the Lothian Car Club will have laid on wall to wall (or is it barrier to barrier????) sunshine for the week-end!

Cheers!

You'll enjoy Doune Jw. but you must remember to do the ritual as you are a Doune virgin, that involves lying on your back -head down hill on the slope called, East Brae--if I remember the name correctly, and drink a pint of ale.
As you probably remember I tend not to drink beer so a pretty young lady Peugeot driver was my proxy for this ritual--bless her.
have fun.

Well of course, if I had thought it would involve alcohol, then I would never have entered....................... :drunken:

Yes please - we know very little other than watching in-car from youtube....... :? Laura's hubby Charles was very quick up Doune in his 5 litre Repco-Pilbeam, but that was nearly 30 years ago!
We hope to get there Friday lunch-time to have a good walk of the hill and find our way round.
Thanks Boydy!

So, how was it?

I am hoping to 'do' Doune in the near future. Sounds longer and faster than Bo'ness..and even more so if there is a beer drinking initiation ceremony involved..

Sorry I haven't replied before, I've been at The Wiscombe Park National meeting over the weekend, with no phone signal or internet, just motorsport, good company and the occasional beer in the evening............ :drunken:

It was a fabulous weekend. Boydy's pal Jock and all of the other organising team were really friendly and helpful, showed us around and took us for a run up the hill before practice to show us everything. Very impressive and slick organisation.
We've entered September again already, Mrs JW was all in favour, which has to be good!

To say it's longer and faster than Bo'ness is an extreme understatement.......... :bom: It is mind-blowing! It's got everything, fast bends from the start between the barriers up into the tunnel, bursting out into the sunlight :bom: and sweeping across the meadow before launching towards the stars on East Brae, with the hidden 90 right at the top, Then a quick blast into a very tight "S's" section before the run to the finish. Brilliant!
Have a look at http://www.dounehillclimb.co.uk/spectator.php and the photos on https://jcrae.smugmug.com/MotorSport/Do ... ill-Climb/ for a taste of the hill and surroundings.

If you want to see how it's done in a single seater, have a look at - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9kufacVXlSc , and no, it isn't speeded up, put a stopwatch on it!

Enter or come along in September, while the Bo'ness buzz is still circulating!

Cheers!

It's a great challenge, I had the lows of taking 3 wheels off the Vision in the tunnel section and then on my return several years later the high making the Run Off in the Jedi. The top boys use the barriers to keep them pointing in the right direction ;)
Cheers
