Has anyone recently had an application for an age related plate refused by the DVLA . ?
I have recently been refused an age related plate for my 70 car despite supplying a Certificate of authenticity / proof or age from Porsche.
Is this a recent policy as i am sure there are plenty on here that have obtained Age related plates after supplying age evidence.
They say the car was registered in the UK in 81 and that it has the correct plate.
A slight contradiction as they say you can't make a car look younger than it is with a number plate.... Twat's.
Can you elaborate as i intend to appeal, hence the post. ? I have sent the COA and a covering letter as i want an age related plate but they have refused.
The car was imported in 81 from Germany and i assume it was assigned the plate as the the owner could not prove it's age at the time.
I recently went through the same process and acquired the original reg for my 67 car. DVLA were very helpful. I provided all the relevant info such as orginal registration doc's clearly showing the original registration, photo's of the car showing the original registration number etc however they needed proof of ownership and various other bits of information one of which was a covering letter from the relevant owners club. I contacted Steve Kelvin At PGB and provided the following info:
A completed V765 and V55/5 forms
Copy of my V5C
Photographic evidence of vin plate on front cross member
Photograph of the vin number stamped in the luggage compartment
Photographs of the car from back in 67 displaying the original reg number
Steve was really helpful and provided a copy of the original sales ledger and a covering letter stating that the car was first registered with the said registration. I then provided all of this info back to dvla and within a couple of weeks I had my new V5
Thanks chaps. This is exactly my gripe. I have spoken with the DVLA, they instructed me to apply with a covering letter and proof of age and assured me it was a standard procedure. But now they still refuse to change the x prefix to the 1970 H plate.
Mark, i think your's is a slightly different case as your car had a previous UK registration.
My reply from the DVLA:
" i have looked into your request again concerning the registration mark, however after requesting advice on this, the original response still stands. The vehicle was registered before 1983, age related numbers are not appropriate as these vehicles have been correctly registered in line with the policy/ procedures at that time."
What a PITA. I can buy a H plate for around £50 but i feel an appeal coming on.
I was advised that a letter of origin ( LOO, available from PCGB) is what you need
as proof of date of manufacture.
I hope that helps.
But it costs £65.00!

Now Porsche less and sad.

I think i can lay my hands on £50 quid...! Reason for the post was to have a rant and to appeal as a matter of principle if they have set a precedent with other DDK folk.
No hassle for me as i have my own personal rant assistant who manages all my rant admin.
My 911t came to this country in Y registration, as in YRRxxxY
Several time in the last 28 years I have owned it I have tried to get an age related number, but always refused as " it has the correct number because you car can only have the number as date of import.
I did not import it which I think makes matters worse.
Presumably if a I buy a 1973 number from the dvla then all is ok.
Pay pay pay, you know the drill.

It's last tax disc is dated 1981 Nick. I assume i can only apply for historic status/ free tax if i have a current MOT.
Maybe that would makes a difference.?

When I got mine, it's a 68 car, registered in uk in 79 and had a T reg on it. I had to mot it with the 79 plate on it, then apply for a 68 plate even though it stated year of manufacture 68 on the v5
I backed it up with the coa from Porsche, no problem

Don't shoot the messenger....He's only doing his job!
Isn't the issue that they are hanging this on the fact that it was first registered in the UK in 81? The other ones above appear to have been registered in the UK from new.
The simple things you see are all complicated
I look pretty young but I'm just backdated yeah
