Hope I don't regret this!

Having sold my '73 911, in the present circumstances something more modern was called for so this has arrived!

2011 Cayman R. 8)

So far so good, it's not air-cooled, which is sad, but its pretty quick, no different to insure, has much of the feel of the 964RS (yep, selling that I did regret!), with good mpg (promise not to mention that again!).

So we shall see, this isn't the end of owning 'proper stuff' but I think it might be pretty good

Looks great, always liked the Cayman and especially the R.

Good luck keeping it clean, I'm just in the garage with the polish trying to make my black thing look presentable

I am sure you will not regret it, they are a really nice car. My first year of Cayman S ownership has been good, it is nice to have something a bit more civilised to drive than an old 911.

Job 1: Get a black pot of Humbrol for the mirrors and air intakes.
Job 2: Love every minute of driving it.

Great car.

I had the use of a Cayman R for 4 days a few years back - I really liked it (apart from the PDK)

Great car.
If you just paint the mirrors black you won't be able to see the air intakes.......

What you really need is silver paint for the front air intakes, wipers and door handles

Looks good as is Tony.

Enjoy :)

Thanks for the encouragement guys!
I've been wondering about the silver intakes - and the the other silver bits, need to live with it for a bit before deciding I think.

Nice usable car especially on busy A roads that blight the UK now.
My 2009 Boxster has a very cheap looking silver painted side air intake grills too and I really don't like hem. Satin black is starting to tempt me.

Have you driven the Cayman down your fav B roads yet? The ones full of edge pot holes and ridges etc?

On one of my most used ones into Shropshire (Wombourne to Ludlow) my Skoda's are faster than my Boxster because they absorb the road, the Boxster needs a speed reduction .

My old Z4 was impossible hence selling it for the Boxster.

I've a 987 Boxster because I love hood down motoring and I think it is my favourite of all time. I really love it, so I'm sure you will the Cayman. A friend who'd had a succession of 911s thought his Cayman, the best car Porsche had made.

Oelala, now then now then. That looks like a weapon, especially in your capable hands! So now there is not only a fast Cayenne Turbo in sinister Black (she is even more capable, obviously), but now closely followed by a Cayman R on them Lincolnshire roads.....

However, do you fit in it comfortably, Tony? I found I couldn't get the right adjustment in a 987 Cayman -No, I am not referring to hip width!-, so dismissed it ever since.

For the black paint, I find that after claying, cleaning polishing and all that malarkey, a couple of layers of Collinite 476 wax does a great and long lasting job. Snowfoam lance on the Karcher, and a quick wash and be done with it.

Many happy miles!

After 3 x 997's a friend ( a very capable hill climb competitor) bought a Cayman top spec with lots of things on it.

He absolutely loves the thing and rates it miles above any of the 911's. Would never step back to a 911.
Crappy surface roads never work with performance cars, but smooth A roads are magic.

Don't be embarrassed about 33+ mpg; in traffic you can't help but get that or better. :)

I'm taking a 718 Cayman to Essen next week – will be interesting to see how the four-cylinder engine sounds and feels in comparison...
