I have a 356, so it may be diffferent but we found what is called hardura in this country under the carpets. It's available from www.woolies-trim.co.uk

It's 12mm thick felt type carpet underlay with a rubberise coating one side and under that we put Dynamat to try and reduce the row.

A 72T should have 1.5 sound and vibration damping sheet stuck to the floor panels, the front and rear inner arches. The rear seats have thick moulded foam coverings, the parcel shelf has a fitted sound pad.

That doesn't look very original Nick. Shouldn't we be encouraging the use of horsehair?

I got the black stick on adhesive sheets the same as in nicks pic from wayside adhesives, they came in packs of 15 and were pretty cheap....good service and delivery too. Mark.

Can anyone recommend a modern equivalent for the horsehair layer on a SWB (apart from Stoddard's recently introduced and what seems rather overpriced kit) ?

Cartex Sitzklinik supply a very close material with their SWB front compartment carpet set. Maybe they would let you buy some 'off the roll'.

You could give them a try.

Vielen Dank, Deeman! Looks good, I'll see what they can do. Certainly some interesting stuff on the website.
