914 carb problems !
Hi , am a newbie to DDk..have just imported from the USA a Porsche 914 2.0 ltr , date plate shows December 1974. The injection system has been removed and dual weber carbs fitted. Having had lots of trouble getting it to run smoothly ,took it to a local garage only to be told carbs were a poor Chinese copy and impossible to balance !..Compression and timing were ok ,so if anyone has a twin carb set up they no longer need ..would be very interested...many thanks :

Where are you located?
Sounds like the garage are just palming you off as they either don't want to spend time on the car or have little experience.
Chinese carbs aren't great but you can get them running well with a bit of effort.

I had a balance problem with mine - watch this - although this is a type 1 engine the principle is exactly the same. Took very little time and my car has never sounded so smooth at idle

As long as you have no blocked jets and a quality linkage set up it will just take time and patience.

Buy yourself a carb sync tool and you can do it.

Re: 914 carb problems !
As above, you could spend £££,s paying someone to try and set them up. Get yourself a Snail gauge and have ago. It doesn't take long to get the hang of it and the feeling of doing it yourself is priceless. Do remember you need a good throttle linkage with no slop, otherwise it'll be a waste of time.
Maybe even get yourself a Colourtune also.

Re: 914 carb problems !
The main reason carbs are hard to balance is air leaks. Check for air leaks using the usual techniques. then if all is good and you have matched jets, vents etc it will just be down to patience. Check float heights so you are not suffering flooding etc.
