'73 911 Steering Column Play - Fixed
A quick one as I think I know the answer but wanted to ask DDK for confirmation.
My steering wheel/column has some movement up/down (see YouTube link below). I've removed the steering wheel and found there is no plastic bush in there. I assume I need to fit the metal Steering Column Bush available from Porsche?

Yes I think you're right. Mine is missing from the steering wheel. Thanks for the quick reply.

On the steering wheel boss section do you have the spring and collet?
If so, slip the collet off and turn it around - Hey Presto! No movement.
It worked on mine last week....Tiz Black Magic

No, the spring is there but no stützring/collet. I'll order one tomorrow along with a few other bits I need to finish the car off.

Re: '73 911 Steering Column Play - Fixed
Thanks for pointing me in the right direction 'inaglasshouse'. All now sorted.
Just to finish off this thread in case it comes up on a future search... This is what the Stützring / Stuetzring looks like direct from Porsche GB stock. Part number 695.347.725.00 and described as a 'Support Ring' in English. Price was £17.82 with 10% discount + VAT. (Oct '16)
It goes on this way round (see pic below). Really simple to fit. I put the gap towards the bottom but I can't see it matters. Put some grease on it, refit the wheel, washer and nut and torque up to around 40 ft/lbs and you're sorted. Steering with no play.

Good stuff, glad it worked. One of those satisfying (and cheap!) fixes.
Cheers, Richard.
