Re: 71 2.2S
At least you know what you're getting into with this one.
I quite like it. Looking at the MFI, engine bay electrics, instruments, little details like the block at the top of the door shut, etc, it does look fairly original. Certainly some expensive bits like the MFI, oil union, front calipers look promising. Going to be a tad more rusty than the auction blurb suggests, I imagine.
55-65K though, yes, bit scary. Depends whether you really think finished examples are selling for 150K+...

Leaving money aside, I think that would be a fun project. It's definitely save-able, and deserves to be done properly.
Hope someone sympathetic takes it on and does it well.
Re: 71 2.2S
At the £15K estimate, i'd rather have the original, rust free 2.4T mfi...

Re: 71 2.2S
James I take it you mean the 73T needing restoration? It had an estimate of £15-18k and sold for £40,000
The 1972 S 2.4 Coupé had an estimate of £180-220k and sold for £178,000

Re: 71 2.2S
The T went for 40k so 46k when you've paid the fees and got it home.
The resto S didn't sell at 43k
I went for the tractor but bailed at 11k
Dave an I still can't belive that T price as we sit over a pint

Re: 71 2.2S
I went to see that 2.4T, the most rust free original car I have seen in a while. Agreed it didn't look much in the photos, but 30 years in temperature controlled storage and low miles before that makes a very easy resto. Not many 2.4T mfi's made, original colour combo ivory white/black, can see why it made decent money. Apparently bought by a UK based restorer.
Would far prefer that T to that S.

Re: 71 2.2S
just had a flick though the results some nice motors and some reasonable prices on one or two of them.
Biggest surprize was the set of rudge wheels for 356 at £24,600
