Goodwood Revival — Advice
Heading to my fist GWR this Saturday, any advice for a rookie?
I'm aiming to depart home around 6am (it's a 2.5hr drive) and hoping to take the Morgan (weather dependent).
Who's going?

Dress up retro
The simple things you see are all complicated
I look pretty young but I'm just backdated yeah

Re: Goodwood Revival — Advice
I'm there tomorrow
The big Qs to get in the car park are after 9.30 to about 11, By Q I mean from the Portsmouth side of Chichester...
You WILL want to spend time in the tax-free car park
Dress up - that way you're "in" the event, not just a spectator looking on/weird
A grandstand seat is great as a chance to sit down (weather looking a tad iffy over the weekend). Going to the other side of the circuit is great as it's much quieter but make sure you do that not just as stuff ends...
Make sure you have an empty memory card in your camera
The food is expensive...people-watching is free
"Over-the-road" is a good meander as you leave
It's busy but eye-wateringly brilliantly put on.

Leave an hour earlier. Coming from Portsmouth I always stay in the outside lane on the Chichester bypass right up until your filtered off to Goodwood. It can save time.

Make sure you read the dress code, non compliers really stand out. There is so much to see that 1 day will barely be enough. If you are up for a bit of walking then the exit of Madgwick is a brilliant place to watch the D Types and 60s saloons drifting at high speed. Spend a bit of time in the various paddocks and if you are into anything mechanical the classic plane display is beautiful.
Coming from Dorset you will surely come across a bit of traffic on the A27 around Chichester, but there's not much you can do to avoid it. Expect rain on Saturday afternoon

Re: Goodwood Revival — Advice
Like Nick says , dress code is important , especially if you are visiting the paddocks . You will still be allowed in if not conforming .

Overalls, flat cap and a few accessories........keeps you warm on wet and windy days, cool on hot days, especially with no trousers (ooo-errr) and can be made dirty by sitting anywhere and on anything (double ooo-errr) or spilling whatever you're eating/drinking down it, without it mattering.....
Moustache optional.....

Re: Goodwood Revival — Advice
Cheers guys, appreciate all the advice.
I'm waterproofing the Morgan by just taking the roof and side screens. Dress wise, I'm afraid I don't have much tweed or vintage overalls... However, I could put a James Dean look together... or just go smart with a shirt and tie and flatcap.,. Oh the decisions!!!

Re: Goodwood Revival — Advice
I would recommend walking a lap, its a relief from the crowds that centre along the straight from Woodcote down to Madgwick, I really like the fast section through Fordwater and St. Marys. Over the road is also a little less clustered as there is more open space in which to move around, overall its impossible to take in everything in a single day..!
Re: Goodwood Revival — Advice
I walked the lap yesterday and echo the comment above: really enjoyed being on the fence and away from the crowds to watch the (ahem) qualifying. Madgwick (exit) and Fordwater (entry) both great spots: Unfortunately, the run-off at Lavant means you're still quite far away
Got there at 10 and walked out of there at just gone 8 last night.
I also thought that fewer people dressed up than past years and it occurred to me that they will need to do something to appeal to a younger crowd over time: LOTS of grey hair yesterday and so their audience is ageing fast

Agree about the ageing audience. That's why I bring my 30-something daughter with husband.
Arrived alongside this today. What are the chances etc..
Owner is from Skegness. First time here in it.. He normally flies in, but elf and safety has stopped that.
Saw 5 other 356's just in our section of the Revival car park.

Re: Goodwood Revival — Advice
I had 2 cameras on me yesterday, and not spending half the day in the tax-free car park meant I saw more.
