Sc running issue.

Post by coomo »

Guys.Ive been roped into doing a refresh job on a mates 1982 SC.Usual engine bay clean up etc. However, hes told me that it has a slight running issue. It will start fine, and idle fine, until it warms up.Then as you drive a decellerate,(sp?) it will cut out.
Only seems to be when warm.Im thinking WUR? Any help gratefully received.

Don't jump to conclusions before carrying out a complete and systematic check of the basic engine parameters :-

Is the ignition timing set correctly with the engine at operating temperature and does the rotor arm stick or feel sticky at any point in the advance/retard range, the distributor is contactless and many garages forget to lubricate the distributor shaft when servicing often with sticky or semi-seized advance performance.

Is the idle mixture CO% set correctly - too rich and it will cause stalling

Is the idle speed set correctly and are there any airleaks from inlet boots/hoses etc

Is the restrictor in place inside the breather hose that runs from the oil tank neck and the back of the ribbed inlet bellows

Are the rocker clearances set correctly -if too tight can cause stalling

Only after checking through these things should you move on to pressure tests of the k-jet system to prove faults within the components before replacing/refurbing.
