Set (4) 175/70 x 15 Avon CR6ZZ tyres ...
.
Would suit 356, 911/912 or 914 equipped with 5.5 in wheels.
I've fitted this make/model of tyre to most of the early Porsches I've owned & currently have them fitted (in this size) to my 356C - I rate them (along with many other early 911 owners) as the best road-legal period-looking tyre you can buy.
I was going to keep these (mounted on the steel wheels) as an alternative set of wheels/tyres for my 356 but have changed plans as I already have too many wheels/tyres/spares taking up valuable space.
All 4 tyres are the 'hard' compound recommended for road use & all 4 tyres have approx 6mm tread remaining (the new/unused 175/70 spare in my 356C has 6.5mm tread depth).
Avon changed their 175/70 & 185/70 moulds during 2012, the new versions having a slightly wider tread than the earlier versions but the overall diameter & width of both 175/70 tyres are the same.
- 2 of these tyres have date codes of 07/11 & are the earlier version (the 2 on the right in the first picture)
- the other 2 tyres are dated 43/12 & are the later version.
All 4 tyres have the same load rating (86H).
Current price of these from Longstone Tyres is £218-40 ea
My price for all 4 is £300
Carriage can be arranged for an additional £20 for all 4 tyres.
SOLD !!!

Re: Set (4) 175/70 x 15 Avon CR6ZZ tyres ...
Hi Andy - would these be too much of a stretch in 6inch wheels? Would love to try them on my 71 E but suspect they may be too narrow.
Thanks
Feroz

If I only had a inexpensive way to ship to Norway...
Best looking classic tire in the world by far!!!!
Btw, how are these compared to the Dunlop racing tires (6.00-15?)

The newer 175's would probably be OK - I've got 5.75" rims on the rear of my 356C - but I think 6" wheels might be too wide for the (slightly) narrower/earlier 175 version.

Hello, Would these fit a set of Standard Steel Wheels from a 1965 Porsche 912? 15" wheels. If so I will take them from you. Exactly what I need!

Certainly the current CR6ZZs are ok on 6" wheels. I would be very surprised if the previous ones were not rated for 6" wheels Feroz.
For me, they are too expensive for my needs (new, not the ones here for sale). I'll be going for a 'modern' (rather than classic) set for my mongrel 914.

Re: Set (4) 175/70 x 15 Avon CR6ZZ tyres ...
175/70 is perfect on 6" rims and are ok on all from 4,5 to 6-6,5. Old racing cars had always wider rims than tires. I have 185/60 on 7", a bit stretch but not much. Many people tend to have to wide tires on narrow rims, and also to wide tires on old cars. 165-15 are wonderful to drive on, but not exactly sporty...

According to the Avon website, max rims for those tyres are 6.0", not 6.5.

- & their advice for the earlier (slightly narrower) 175/70x15 version was that it is suitable for max rim size of 5.5 in

Yes , but sometimes websites and reality differ slightly.gridgway wrote:According to the Avon website, max rims for those tyres are 6.0", not 6.5.

I have fitted them to 7 inch rims (on 928 rally car) ... it was "interesting work" to get them fitted (read , seated) ... but it worked. Given the choice I would not repeat the processs , but sometimes needs must ............. !

I was using the Avon website which I take to be fairly authoritive on the subject of Avon tyres!Cortina wrote: Yes , but sometimes websites and reality differ slightly.
