Re: Ducktailing it to the Targa
My friend Tom suggested posting this when I showed him this thread. Video from last summer:

And some pictures the challenges before you
There's more pictures here:

And he mentioned to budget at least an hours detour between Catania and Palermo due to wiped out roads. Some visible in pictures above...

Re: Ducktailing it to the Targa
The trip has started. I met Mike this afternoon at a wet and cold Abington Services to get my luggage in the car and that's him heading to London. He should be there tomorrow afternoon.

Re: Ducktailing it to the Targa
Got a text from Mike yesterday evening, car came to a sputtering halt a mile from Southwaite Services. Car recovered to Mike Bainbridge's with a suspected fuel pump problem.....
Text this morning saying that it was a faulty/stuck fuel sender, so he had run out of fuel. I was thinking that was what we would be doing in France
Back on the road again!

Good start - you need incidents like that to make it a true road trip

Re: Ducktailing it to the Targa
We actually leave the UK at lunchtime on Monday. Mike started 'early' as he has a wedding to attend in London this weekend.Gary71 wrote:Good to see the road trip has started in style! Has Mike rejoined on plan now then?
Best to get any problems out of the way nice and early with this kind of adventure, so Mike has done us all a favour with this little hiccup.
Bet he feels a bit silly... I mean, what kind of fool would run out of fuel and need to ask for help?

You'll be fine for fuel, apparently you get really good mpg in a Boxster911hillclimber wrote:I'm going through France to Switzerland in 10 days time.
