Best 993 forum?
Hi all, I know there are a few with 993's on here so thought I'd ask where I could learn a bit more about the car's good and bad bits. Best online forum? Any recommended books etc.? Bit of an impuls buy the other day...
Cheers

Re: Best 993 forum?
Good choice, pics please!
Here are my chassis legs before and after some remedial work. Probably overkill, but while we were in there (doing the heat shields and rear bumper supports).
And a gratuitous whole car pic of mine:
As James says 911uk and rennlist are worth a look. They're not a patch on DDK though.
I find 911uk sometimes / often a bit Pistonheads, if you know what I mean. And if you think DDK has been ruined by threads about values you should see the other places...

Re: Best 993 forum?
Thanks for all the advise! I'll order the book and check the rear end bits for corrosion once I get an opportunity.
As I said this was a bit of an impuls buy and I've never looked around for 993s so don't really know anything about them, the plan was actually to get a 996 GT3 CS but I guess that'll have to wait a while now... Anyhow the chance came up to buy this one in Lugano CH last Friday from a guy needing cash before evening the same day, there was a slight problem though as I was in Sweden and had only seen a few photos... So I did everything you shouldn't do, I took a chance, told wife to sort cash and asked a friend who's into old Porsches to go for a look and buy it if it checked out OK, and thats what they ended up doing.
I don't have any good photos but here's one from the seller
And here's one which took when she'd picked it up and left it for storage at a friends place

Magnus, nice car. I see you are based in Glasgow and Zurich, I am Glasgow based and more than happy to talk 993's.
911UK can be a good resource, you will find most things have been covered or discussed on the forum.
Make sure to post more pictures and details once you have them. What year is the car?
Cheers

I don't know an awful lot about this car but it's a Swiss delivered car which has been serviced at OPC since new and it's got a fresh MOT (very strict in Switzerland) and a new roof lining and valve cover seals. It's a manual C2 from 1995 with factory sports suspension. The bad bits so far, rust in lower windscreen corner, non original wheels, non original front lip.
I'll get some better photos and better report once I actually get to see the car in a couple of weeks.

Not sure what's on right now but it looks like something from BBS, I'll let you know.Bootsy wrote:Looks and sounds nice

For now I'll need to find out what the stock wheels should be, was it different options available in '95 and how does one find that out? Would that be on the equipment sticker in the boot and how can I decode that sticker?

Codes listed above.
If you are in Glasgow I will definitely get in touch and meet for a coffee at a lunchtime, I will be in touch and try find some time. I have a few books I can let you borrow or give you the names so you can buy them yourself. The Essential Companion is by far the best reference book you can buy.

Tom, I could possibly do lunch but I'm actually outside in Dumbarton so afternoons are easier. Thanks for the de-coding link, it will come in handy, the reference book is now ordered.
Hot66, thanks for the wheel info, I'll dig into that once I've seen the car.

This is another good book. Seems to be out of print and all other copies up for sale at £500, mad.
I will bring mine along and let you have a look. The essential book you have ordered has all the same detail, the one above is just a condensed version.

So discounting Rennlist as it's for the yanks, been following the 993 section on 911uk since James posted about it.hot66 wrote:Rennlist or 911uk
God how boring is that, couple of posts a day if your lucky mainly about values, they need some 'mavericks' over there!
cheers, Mike.
