My ' paid for ' tax was up at the end of February. I could of applied for the historic tax 5 months earlier when the car became eligible for free tax and presumably got a bit of a refund but I let it run until the tax was due on the 1st of March . I went into the post office about 3 days before of February, filled the form in and handed over my old log book .
The copper didn't intimate that the car wasn't taxed when he stopped me so I can only presume that the DVLA had registered it as historic by then .

So is he doing you purely for having black plates? Must have been a quiet morning for him!

Interesting this one.
My 73T was imported from Germany in V reg, YRR344Y and has had that reg for ever in the UK.
It has reflective plates and confuses many a geek.
It is registered historic now so no tax, but always fancied a silver/black plate but same reg, it is all part of the car.

I thought I would be stopped so never did it. The 2000 year Boxster over the road is on silver plates...

Hope you get it sorted to your side in court Russ.

If your car was registered as historic there is no way you should be done for silver plates, as it was confirmed to me officially in January that it was permissible.
Is it too late to appeal now you have accepted the points? I would kick up a fuss..

I've not paid it yet , fines not due for paying until the 23rd so I've got a few days to get sorted .
