Quite a car.
Good points: Genuine German delivered. Genuine early S. Wonderful patina. Unique preservation. Rare car in rare unrestored condition. Fully matching numbers.
Bad points: Rotten as a pear. Really, really rotten. Far too expensive.

So, what to do with it?
The dealer saw it as a 'preservation class' contender. But it was so far gone you couldn't use it.
However, if you restored it you would lose so much character. And it was priced too high for a project car.
I liked it but it left me perplexed....

^^ 320K. Very nice and very well engineering, all period parts from the big limo, engine lowered to clear the bonnet, air suspension. It even had sunroof in the hardtop.

Interesting - it's an "older" Pagoda (2 part hubcaps so up to about '67) and they clearly need something inside the bonnet to absorb noise/heat. Not a normal item
I think it looks better on the bundt wheels it seems to be on here... http://www.auto-kromm.de/pagode/album/index.html

MB did make one or two test 6.3s but apparently struggled with getting the suspension/handling right with the extra weight in the front

- 250 hp 6.3-liter M100 V8 engine;
- strengthened chassis rails and cross-members;
- different steering system;
- stiffer shocks;
- Dunlop racing tires;
- 3.23 rear axle ratio; and
- 5 degree negative camber at the rear wheels.

Test drives were carried out on the Nordschleife of the Nürburgring in July 1967. The 10:30 lap time was considered disappointing, with a fuel consumption of about 6.7 mpg

One of the Pagoda group plonked 5l v8 out of a w107 into his, and apprently it works really well.
Still think a 3.2 SLK V6 would be brilliant.

Enjoyed that tour, thanks for posting. Love the 901s, and the gold Ferrari (308?).
