Subaru 550

Post by scalino65 »

Hello
I was wondering if anyone on here has a 550 spyder with a subaru engine in it? It sounds like a great idea and would eb a total hooligan machine. Anyone built one? got one? Any pointers for who to talk to or whether its a daft idea that doesnt actually work, thoughts etc,etc would be very welcome.
cheers
Will

Thanks for the link Greg, I hadnt seen those before. WoW! they are amazing! I love the white one with 230bhp but from the outside it just looks fairly harmless! The power/weight ratio is astonishing - is anyone building these in the UK?
cheers

all that water cooled stuff though.. wouldn't it be considerably easier (although admittedly more expensive) to build one with a 3.2 or 3.6 911 engine?

I'm afraid I have no idea whether it would be easier, its a good point along with weight distribution and height of the engine. But its bound to be far cheaper to use subaru bits and spares will be far easier to source when it all blows up or ends up in a ditch!
Again, I have no idea what the characteristics of the engine would be and whether it would suit the car or not - so thats another big question mark. Hearing teh dump valve in a 550 would just be weird.
I just like the idea of having stupid amounts of power in a light, lovely looking car, I can imagine passing lotus elises on trackdays -sideways:)
