Probably be limited - the last re issue was limited - the Silverstone

However they're usually big runs and invariably don't add much to value

I'd never buy them as an investment or for the movements but if you like the watch and want to keep it - do it

Thanks Tom useful advice, I do like watch but only due to its 70s style that I could use risk free everyday......one to think about.

I wear 60s or early 70s watches daily, im not sure what the perceived risk is to be honest, if you like the period styling just buy the real deal!

A 60 or 70 movement is easier to repair than a modern movement? I wear mine too but because I bike into work sometimes I will wrap them up and put them in my bag for the commute.

Tomorrow's April 7th, and I shall wear a Gallet Multichron 12 in memory of Jim Clark who died
on this day in 1968 when his Lotus crashed at Hockenheim .
As a kid in 1965, I remember when an American pundit was asked what Gentleman Jim's chances of winning the
Indianapolis 500 ?
He obviously didn't much rate Formula one driver's, and quipped that Indianapolis would ' sort the men from the boys.'
He was of course correct !
1965 Indianapolis winner. Jim Clark ( Lotus )
1965 World Formula one champion. Jim Clark ( Lotus )
As far as I know this double has never been repeated.
In 1965, the watch Jim wore to the track was the Gallet Multichron 12

In House Excelsior Park 40-68 , the nicest and most musical of all chrono movements in my (and Gallet's ) opinion

They don't make em like Jim anymore. More's the pity.

Hi

I think black ones are quite rare, it's a thing of beauty.

Thank you. As far as vintage chrono's go they are not that rare, and occasionally appear on ebay.
As Barry says they also came with white dials and gold cases. They started life in the 1940's with smaller cases for military use.
The 'Jim Clark' case should be approx. 37.5 mm without crown and with larger sub dials than the early military watches.
The 'Jim Clark' Multichron 12 was powered by either the ubiquitous Valjoux 72 movement or Excelsior Park 40-68.
They are both recognized as movements of similar quality.
There are many Valjoux 72 collectors and this movement also powered the Rolex Daytona and Enicar Sherpa Graph.
Gallet collectors tend to prefer the EP40-68 as it's considered to be a Gallet ' In House ' movement as Gallet was their biggest customer and eventually bought them.
Excelsior Park movements look and sound nicer. When held close to the ear you can hear an extra drum cymbal in the back ground giving more of a three dimensional musical sound.
Girard Perregaux and Zenith also used this movement.
Expect to pay £ 2 - 3000 for a nice properly serviced black dial EP40 -68 version. A Valjoux 72 should be approx. £ 250 less.
Be suspicious of anything under £ 2k.

My father had a Waltham, it was the thinnest watch I'd ever seen, no idea whatever happened to it, a lovely thing indeed. Those Submariners......sigh. Gorgeous !!

Incoming!

A rare 1969 sigma pie pan shocking blue 'wide boy' dial Rolex Datejust with white gold bezel..

Sigma as the base of the dial has two 'sigma' 0's to each side of the T Swiss T writing and only done for very short period denoting the hour markers are made of white gold.

Pie Pan as the dial is a rare stepped dial in the shape of a 'pie pan'.

And 'wide boy' as the hour markers are double the width of normal hour markers with lume in the middle.

Each variant is pretty rare, all three variants on one dial is very rare.

It's all about the details!

It's off for a full service and to change the cyclops crystal for a dome version....
