Engine reluctant to start

Post by bjmullan »

As can be seen from the following short video, once I get my engine started it will idle at nice low revs:

However the car is very reluctant to start and will only fire up with the help of easy start spray. I charged the battery fully and the engine turns at a reasonable good speed during the starting process. I suspect it's fuel related. I put 4 gallons of super unleaded in when Mike and myself first started the car so I thing there is enough fuel in the tank but as you can see from the video below the fuel filter doesn't seem to have a great deal of fuel in it and fuel is entering in a trickle. What do you think?

What is your method of starting ? and how fresh us the fuel ?
Do you have the hand throttle still ?
With fresh fuel, several pumps on the throttle, to pump in fresh fuel, crank with lots of throttle opening ( full? ) and as soon as it catches, let it sit a while on a healthy level of hand throttle until warmed through ?
I think until the air is bled out, the filter will always look full of air. Can you bleed the air out, or prime the filter.
Or switch to EFI !!
