911T progress so far

Post by RSGulp »

I've had a fun first few weeks getting to know the car. I've completed a few jobs so far – mainly to make sure the car is reliable and driving like a Porsche should. 8)

Jobs have included brake calipers all rebuilt, front wheel bearings, replaced rear ARB bushes with silicone Powerflex, new Bosch Silver battery, bonnet and lid struts replaced...

A couple of questions: There was only one battery in the front when I got the car, and up to now I've just put one new high cranking battery in. Do our cars actually need two batteries? All the connectors are there for the 2nd battery and there's 12V+ measured at the taped-up positive connector.

Also, I've noticed a hole/connector on the top of the l/h s/steel heat exchanger. Should that have a hose connected or is it an inlet for fresh air? http://thumbsnap.com/Yd9pTB7O

Opinion and guess ...

Batteries - No , one has been fine in mine for the last x years (x is a large number .....)

H. Exch Connection : suspect the (SSI ??) unit is for a mech inj car , which uses a bleed off from here ? (to flapper box if memory serves me right ... is there another smaller unused connection too - higher up ? ... normally would go to thermostat on inj pump ... again from memory !! ??

I'm sure an expert will be along shortly.

Thanks Cortina, I leave it with one battery then and save a bit of weight.

Yes, my car has MFI so you could be onto something. I'll have to get under the car again and see if there's a hose that the heat exchanger should be connected to.

As Cortina says, the 2.4MFI had a warmed air inlet feed supplied via a flapper box to speed warm-up. I ditched mine when I fitted SSI manifolds, they don't have the stub to attach the feed to.

Plus, the engine looks cooler without all that stuff fitted!
