Reproduction 'Ducktails'...anyone?

Post by Jean Berk »

Hi all,
Bootsy recommended this forum to me, so you can all blame him for anything that happens hereon in. (see - I nearly said 'Heroin' already)...
Anyway, I've run out, so don't ask. I am, however, looking to fit a Ducktail to my '89, 3.2 Carrera Sport, as it's going for a new coat of 'Grand Pricks' white soon, and i'm gonna give it the 'Club Sport' look with a Ducktail, too.
I'd like to know where I can get a repro lid from?
Also, decals. Any ideas?

...and that concludes my opening post... 8)
Look - I don't wanna 'backdate' it, ok?!!...

Wellcome to DDK!!

Like any fibreglass panel the quality/fit (& accuracy/authenticity if that's important to you) can vary significantly from one manufacturer to another.

I have a good quality grp ducktail that came off an original '73 Carrera RS available for £200 if you're interested but you will frequently see others on ebay for a lot less.

As for decals, are you talking about the RS Carrera ones or are you looking to have something else made up ?

I have complete RS Carrera decal sets (2 'Carrera' sidescripts, 'Porsche' & 'Carrera RS' engine lid decals plus front & rera bumper stripes) available in various colours for £60 set.

Hi lightweight,
Can you email or post/pm me pics of the ducktail? If poss, a shot of the underside too. Could be what i'm after...
As for decals - I need the 'Club Sport' side decals in the correct red, plus the 'CS' to go on the bonnet. I don't think there is a decal on the back of the Club Sport? Can you do them?
I'm in West London too, so that could be very handy...:)

I just thought - if anyone wants to take a look at how 'project Club Sport' begun, I'm updating a thread on VZi regularly, with pics of how it's going.
Take a look if you like...

Wellcome to the board Jean. I recently undertook a backdating project of my own and must say that it gets pretty expensive.

If I were to do the whole thing again I would probably follow a differnt path.

IROC bumpers and a smooth exterior.

Something like this..

That looks like a really nice job - clean lines. A few people have suggested that I backdate to pre '73, but although i'd love one, if I was going to do it, i'd sell my car and buy pre '73, or a car that was done already. The Club Sport was based on my model and year anyway, so it's just a case of decals and wheel colour for the look, plus it's easily reversible if ever somebody wanted to do so. The Ducktail is a personal preference, even though the whaletail is correct for the CS. I'm getting the old lid painted too, though, to keep with the car...

What you get though is a lightweight sports car how Porsche intended, a galvanised body and 200bhp performance!
Like me you will have to lower the car as when you take all that stuff off it raises 2" higher off of the ground. :)

If Porsche could have avoided the US impact regs I am sure the 911 would have never grown those fugly bumpers. IROC ones look better. :)

Good Luck with your car.
