1973 2.7 Carrera RS

Post by pmjt »

Thank you to those who've asked for pics of my RS - here you go :)

Image

She's chassis no. 911 360 0496 so a 'first 500' car, although I'm not convinved that matters personally. Registered in Wiltshire she went over to Ireland until 1978 and came back with a dual brake circuit system - so probably saw some competition use.

Image

Brought back into the UK in 1978 and sold to a Mr. Robert Kwok, who owned her until I bought her in 2002. She'd had very little use, with a spedo change at 44,000miles - now showing 13,000ish so believed 57,000 from new. Matching numbers including engine and gearbox with virtually all history from new.

Image

I had her stripped to bare metal and found all the original weld marks from the factory on the rear arches - so no body trauma (phew!). Needed a new NSF wing and OS kidney bowl plus lots of fiddly bits to tidy her up - and she's taken nearly two years to complete to where she is now. Believe it or not there are still jobs to be done!

Image

The only mod from original spec I've done is to fit a pair of genuine original leather recaros in place of the leatherette and cloth ones fitted new.

Image

Oh, and this is no garage dweller - I do drive it hard and regularly as those who came on the DDK Northern Run will testify

Top car - great pix - what was it polished with? Makes my "light yellow" look quite ordinary - how about we reclassify yours as "117.5 Extreme Yellow"

 Thank you :)

Zymol. 'HD cleanse' then five or six coats of 'Destiny Glaze' - then maintained after each wash with 'Field Glaze'.

Hehe - honestly - any of these 'cutting compound' treatments will brind the paint lustre back incredibly - then finish it off with a quality glaze.

I've never used Meguirs but seen a couple of cars that looked wonderful with it - I prefer the natural 'carnuba' waxes as they seem easier to work in and maintain. I *don't* like Autoglym - just my personal opinion tho

I always liked Carnuba waxes, still do. But, I used the Meguiars Tech Paste which although synthetic gives an amazing shine and protection without too much hard work. Not that expensive either.

Not a fan of Autoglym.
