When I started on this car, I envisaged a sort of stripped-out interior with no rear seats, minimal carpet etc. Now I want lots of carpet and sound deadening and comfort, including rear seats. I've become a softcock.
The great thing about fold-down rear seats in a 911 / 912 is that they provide not only a nice shelf on which to put your panama hat and brogues, but also a nice hiding place underneath in which to stash silk cravats and cufflinks - items which, if left on display elsewhere in the car, would certainly fall into the hands of ne'er do wells.
The fibreboard backs of my seats had seen some action, and probably some water ingress, and were very crispy and fragile.

I carefully removed the tatty fibreboard.

Production note inside; week 45 of 1967 (6-10 November) - the week the first Saturn V (Apollo 4) was launched.

Meanwhile, in the USA:

These were rusty, so I sanded, primed and repainted them. I think they should be gloss, but I like satin.

Replaced the nasty fibreboard with ply of the same thickness. Stronger, and I already had a sheet of it in the shed. Nailed it to the frame, and staple-gunned the vinyl to the ply.

The car was sold to me with a complete repro carpet set, so I glued the back piece on with carpet glue and secured the corners with black upholstery tacks.
The black retaining strip on the bottom of the un-covered back was made from plastic cut from an old toolbox which I was throwing away. I secured it with black upholstery tacks.

I ran out of carpet glue before I could complete the second seat.

A few weeks ago I dropped my knackered wheels over to Nick Moss for refurb.
I picked them up last week in the middle of the night, whilst on the way home from Gatwick.
Today my local tyre place fitted them with the Pirelli Cinturatos I got from Longstone Tyres.
They look beautiful
I also bought another litre of Bahama Yellow, because I am an idiot and I want to give it another go.

Some of us haven't recovered from the ups and down of the unfolding paint story and had only just started to sleep at night again given the reassurance that the car was going out for a professional blow over.

DIY is best and determination is better.
On a far smaller scale bought ALL the materials to DIY in cellulose my Lambretta.
Just started making the tent for inside the garage.
Resisted your eBay spray gun and splashed out on a £25 one instead.
Take your time and I wish you every luck to see this through to an end that satisfies you.
Will just 1 litre though be enough?

OK - it's painted. I had a friend over from the US today and he gave me a hand sheeting-up the garage and masking the car again. That's quite a big job in itself - I think part of the problem I had last time was that I started painting knackered.
Overall, it looks good and I'm happy. There are a few runs, but nothing serious like last time. The paint is a lot shinier than the first go, too - turns out I hadn't set the gun up right.
Quality-control is all over the place - the rear decklid and one of the bumper quarters look like shite. The front bumper and rear license plate are masterpieces that look like they've come out of a professional paint shop (luck).
I'll see if I can get someone to professionally polish it to a half-respectable shine. I might have to re-do the rear decklid and the dodgy rear bumper quarter.
