Just waiting on a couple of suspension components which should arrive Monday; I'm away for a couple of weeks and should return to find the car on its wheels.....I've also been promised my engine will be fully assembled by then!

Pauter lightweight forged steel con rods
Patrick Motorsport lightweight flywheel (balanced) with Sachs racing clutch
High Butterfly induction
Early Magnetti Marreli twin spark distributor
Racing oil filter housing with disk filter
226mm racing small fan housing
Racing MFI Pump calibrated to 2.5RSR specification built by Gus Pfister
Racing fuel pump plate and brace kit
Lightweight clear engine shroud
Custom Race Headers (no heat)
Straight through megaphones with custom tips - twin out muffler for quiet days
Twin brass front oil coolers with external sill pipes and through the trunk cross over pipes
....Gearbox also rebuilt to suit....
Fully rebuilt race spec 915 'Special Transmission with Oil Pump'
SC type drive shaft with aluminium selectors
All new syncros and dogteeth
Wevo bearing retainer
Wevo side plate and 930 bearing
RS type oil pump and spray bar kit
Guard Transmission custom gear ratios - AZ, GZ, LT, PQ TM

Beautiful looking and I bet she will be a real pleasure to drive. Cant wait to see the finished article.. I usually like factory standard cars but you have definetly persuaded me on this one...

I'll always remember seeing Elton John play at the Swindon County Ground when he was supporting lower league football clubs. There was a lull for a few minutes after Lulu had performed whilst everyone waited for the main man......as the crowd chatted I noticed a guy walk across the stage, sit down at the piano and proceed to bang out a tune!.......no announcement, no trumpets, no fanfare.....Elton just came on and did his thing and boy did he deliver!.....always thought that was pure class!
Mike's RSR was an epic build worthy of a proper launch....as for the Mongrel, I'll just show up in it.....
....you'll hear me coming!

I've been away for past 12 days and pretty much off the grid with very patchy phone and internet connection....I'd arranged a day out to Silverstone with Gary Cook on my return which first gave me the opportunity to catch up on the Mongrel's progress....
....I was hoping to see the car back on it's wheels although Gary had a come across a slight clearance issue with the 930 calipers due to the ribs found on Deep 6 wheels that you don't have on later flat 6's.....

....the front and rears have been test fitted up...930 disks on the rear which aren't an option on the front due to offset, still need to decide which front disks we'll be fitting.....

....after taking advice from Harvey Weidman regarding spacers and general fit we took his suggestion of doing exactly what the race teams did back in the day and got the shaver out!....

.....hubs to be used have cleaned up nicely....

....and most everything else fitted, ready and waiting...

.....I managed to source a few old German Army leather belts to use for a few items....the door pull will need a bit of working on to get it to 'flop' nicely....

....door check strap, nothing too fancy....

....my old rear engine grill was pretty battered and bent as well as being painted, unfortunately under the paint the anodising was shot and far too silver....

....as many will know a number of early race cars just removed all but the top and bottom bars to save weight.....ideally I would have done the same although my grill was past saving...I'd left the grill with Rich to 'tidy up' and decided on a variation of a theme by also removing the tabs the hold the cross bars....you can never save too much weight at the rear, right!...

....I've found some black Dum Dum type material that we'll be using to fit the rear quarters....

.....being a tad concerned about how secure this will be Gary has also fabricated some neat lttle front clips....

....loving the look of the Cibié Biodes....glass is 'driver quality' which adds a bit of character....


....gauge bracket modded and looking good....

...having no heat I've opted for a clear heated front screen, as will be the rear......

....I've resisted the temptation to re-anodise the door frames so these carry a few marks and a little life....

....I'd seen some aluminium through the horn grill ducting on (I think) a Belgium race car which looked pretty cool and planned to do the same....I'm now itching to get the car on the road so this will be a project for another time so for the moment Gary has fabricated a couple of mesh covers....

...the unbound felt lightweight carpet has cleaned up well and looks great....

.....so with me as happy as Larry we made our way to Silverstone where we bumped into many Porsche folk including Ben Coles who had driven his Ford Model T all the way from Bromsgrove, had blagged his way in and was merrily driving around the pits wearing his Top Hat!....

Great stuff, Darren. Interesting seeing how others solve the problems we all come across! I made identical little brackets to hold the R quarter windows in and similar black stuff to glue them, so we both agree on that one! I made some black mesh 'horn grilles' too but couldn't get them to sit right, so abandoned them – I think the mesh I used was too thin. Yours look fab!
At this rate your car's going to be finished and on the road well before mine - even though I had two years (or more) head start!

I'm still not holding my breath on finishing this one anytime soon Keith let alone booking MOT's, you know how things can turn!......I'll see if Gary can make up another set of the mesh grills if you like although Manuel Campuzano tells me he's in the process of producing these and he always does an excellent job.KS wrote:Great stuff, Darren. I always liked the idea of all the hot rods getting built being photographed together.....shame Mr Jury has moved although expect your CP expenses would cover getting our cars shipped to Oregon!
Now that sounds like a plan!
