They tell me they can sort worn shafts and vacuum problems.
Anyone got any experience of them or alternatively any other advice such as don't do it, go here....

Do you want to use the vacuum retard? Wasn't that to slow the car down for California smog rules?

Hi Neil
The car came with that dizzy and Solex carbs with the vacuum connected.
I've had the carbs restored and put it into a well known 912 specialist for a tune up
I'm told that the shaft is worn on the dizzy as when another is fitted the car runs fine so another distributor is suggested
However I have not established which stand in dizzy was used during the tune up process
I assumed, rather than spending £300 for a secondhand dizzy, I would get the original restored

The Chap who used to tune my 911 recommended H&H so they're probably good. In the end I didn't go to them and have used Lambs at Clowne, Fenn Lane and Vintage Werks in the States.
A worn dizzy shaft/bearing messes up the timing. This can be remedied by doing away with the points and fitting pertronix which doesn't rely so much on the shaft running true.
Having said that there's definitly something to be said for having a distributor restored to run perfectly so you can take it out of the 'why won't this flippin engine run right' equation.

Have you tried Glenn Ring in the States, he does rebuilds or most air-cooled distributors.
If you send it off to the States, make sure you document fully when it sent off, only so Customs do not charge you import duty on its return!
