Graphics Help?....

Post by Darren65 »

In the past I've produced a few Momo horn pushes with a stacked Momo logo.....the process involves using a vinyl logo applied a metal centre push plate which is then lacquered to give a pretty decent original looking finish.....

Image

....I've recently been asked if I can produce the very rare Momo Monte Carlo horn push....this would mean producing the centre logo, outer ring and the lettering from this design...

...the problem here is that the letting is just too small to be cut from vinyl.

Can anybody suggest an alternative method of producing these?

Normally Tamp Printed in volume production?
Not a DIY process, same for silk screen method. Check out a company called Dyametric in the south of UK now I think.

Used to use them at work before retiring for low volume high definition labels etc.

Yep, 'pad printing'.
Used for overprinting logos etc on pens (i.e. on a curved surface like the barrel of a pen).
Done in silver ink it should look excellent. The image will be crisp and sharp, you can render text a lot finer than you aspire to.
You won't find many prepared to print just a handful and the set-up cost will be a few quid but it's possible.

You could try a dry transfer (like the decals you had on your model planes as a kid). Would have to be dry for you to lacquer over. But worth a try. Would be suitable for low. Volume.

Not too sure if you can get metallic finishes. But a light grey under the shiny lacquer should look the part.

As per the Pad printing technique Paul refers to I had the 4 small dials for my E Type printed this way, I drew the artwork (printer made the plates) and I provided painted blank dials....think I gave him about £120 to do 8 individual discs, each one being unique (outer and inner dials for the 4 gauges)
It's around 3 years ago now and Ken used to be based in Mitcham I recall... Let me know if you want to contact him

'Dry transfer' is/was the system used by Letraset. The decals in the models kits were 'waterslide transfers'. Anorak moment... :)

And a real b*tch if you left them in too long and they slid off the paper as you took it out of the water
