4 pot kettles...

Post by Tosh »

Thinking of cashing in my 964 chips and going for a 968. Less precious, less valuable...

Anyone any experience/thoughts on the 944/968. I am sure some of you have been down this road

Keep the 964.... If its a nice one you have you'll regret selling it.

Hello. I am the man that, every time this question comes up, suggests the best option is a 924S or early round-clock 944. Everyone always ignores me, but that does not make me less right. Later forty-fours and sixty-eights have dull steering and gruff engines (yes, even the 968CS).

That said, I agree with the Irishman.

But they do have a vastly improved driving position, unlike the '24's wheel-between-your-knees effort.

We'll let that slide this time Sam ;)

Oh and a nice 924S is a fun car but not a patch on a 964

A poor driving position is the hallmark of every great Porsche.

I think you'd be crazy. Just force yourself to drive the 964 more, they may well still go up so you are getting free fun.

I drove one a lot when they were new in the 90s and really enjoyed it. Not sure how it would feel now though.

I owned 6 944's including an S,S2 and a turbo back in the early 90's and they were a very capable car with a bit of a dull engine.

I would still consider them to be a great first Porsche but they are unlikely to captivate an existing owner.

This is my first 944.

They're good cars, but you can't replace a 911 with any of them.

Years ago I went through the process of buying a 968CS ... Test drove quite a few but in all cases just couldn't pull the trigger ...... Ultimately they all felt soul less compared to a 911, there was just no emotional pull.

Personally I would look at e46 m3's if going down the 944 route. It's amazing how much difference a nice engine can make :)

You could buy a Cayman S for the price of a good 968
