85pages of piston headers love fest but now some doubts appearing. It looks cracking, if you want to spend 75k on a trackday car. I'd rather spend less and have a previous generation gt3, notwithstanding supply constraints. Or a lotus exige v6.

if it is as good as they say or imply. Then could this start to see Gt3 prices take a thump ( note I didn't say tumble ).

Oh I like the look of that. I'd have one. Looks like the spirit of the early 911 in a modern. I'll give it a couple of years and get one when they're not so fashionable. :-)

yeah, I've ordered one, same colour as Bootsy's pic - looks fantastic, and pretty decent value for money if you steer wide of the options. i'll flip it if it turns out I can't afford it !

My first thought was can I get one. As it looks about the best £/perf new car it's possible to buy.

On reflection I suspect a 1yr old Cayman Gts would be 90% as good for much lower cost and actually 120% as good on the road (less compromised)

These will be 75-80k optioned so not q as cheap as they look

I am hoping to buy an m3 in a year or so for prob 60pc of its new price as they have been slated and all bmw m cars fall off a cliff excl the 1M.

Now that really should be bang for buck !

No. There is something about a 911, sorry. Even a new, fat, electrically helmed one.
And I need back seats in my cars.
And all the colour coded stitching and embossed headrest logos is a bit much, trying a bit hard.
I'm sure it will be a fab steer though..as mentioned above, life is made sweeter by Porsche continuing to knock out motors like this..so, no.. but yes!

Depends what you want.

A new 991 is the consummate GT and still very desirable.

But, if I wanted a pure, driver focused, Porsche with road and track potential, then yes - the Cayman GT4 looks like a winner, and makes the 991 GT3 look a bit bloated.

The race variant is likely to be in British GT next year. The GT4 grid is growing, so will be interesting to see how it does.

My frustration with PHs is that they all declare they want a stripped-to-the-bone 400bhp/1200kg £40k Cayman, and when something similar does appear they announce that its terrible value for money and when they added a few 'must have' options (climate/leather everything/carbonfibre nik-naks/huge soundz/21" rimz/and a whole S-class worth of electronics) it costs £75k and weighs 200kg more.

FWIW I had a vanilla 2.7 Cayman for a couple of years. My friendly OPC gave me a 997S for the weekend to encourage me to 'upgrade', but it was very obvious within 500m that the Cayman steered better, had a more natural balance, and on 18" wheels/PASM a ride that was better suited to knobbly West Sussex tarmac.

I'd be prepared to put money (not £65k sadly) on the motoring press giving the GT4 all of their 'Best of...' accolades this summer, and comparing it favourable to the Hurricane/McLaren/Audi/Ferrari middies, while the poor Alfa 4C/Evora will disappear even further down the sales charts.

I'd buy the GT4 in a heartbeat. Porsche gave me a Cayman R for a weekend a couple of years ago, hands down the best car I've ever driven, the GT4 will be epic and compared to a big fat new 911, more like the cars we all love, only slightly short of somewhere for the dog to sit.

This is just the beginning of the cynical exploitation of the "GT" moniker by VW.

A nice enough car but fitted with a detuned modular 991 engine...

Real GT cars have a Mezger engine.

Well that rules out the Carrera GT as well as the 991GT3/RS which uses a modified 9A1 job.

A bit like the GT4 really...
