BMW 2002ti

Post by Nick Moss »

This Norwegian registered 2002ti competed in the 1971 Monte Carlo Rally, starting in Oslo, driven by Johan Johannessen in the Group 1 class, i.e. as a virtually standard showroom car. Over the years it was transformed into a Group 2 car

I bought this car some 3 years ago in this condition.

The engine was a genuine Alpina A2S, but belonged in a 2002 Touring, so was shipped back to its rightful home. So I had a scruffy 02 with no motor, so I do what I always do, pull it apart, then sent it to Enviro Strip

Look forward to seeing what you do. The 2002 is one of the few cars I would consider if I were to sell my 911.

There was quite a bit of welding to do, as with any 2002; new floors, hinge pillars and inner wing repairs.

The arches had been trimmed back before the GRP arches were added. The original arch lip is missing if you look carefully. We cleaned up the area a bit more before the shell went to Custom Cages for their first 2002 FIA cage. Then to Cleaning consultants for a blast before etch primer

Where was that Vic? Ti's were not available in the UK because of the space that the steering box takes up.

The Group 2 arches that I fitted are narrower than the illegally wide arches that I removed

Very nice little project Nick. "Quite a bit of welding" - like it!
Best wishes,

Sam.
