Re: Mongrel Street Racer
Well, there are four colours which more or less define the era of the early 911 IMHO and that's one of them.
Going to look stunning.

A cracker for sure.
Be great to see the Orange/black contrast.
Out of interest please, how much paint did you use? I'm heading in the same direction soon but champagne yellow, in cellulose.

Cellulose is more 1940's than early 70's!......these cars would have always been a two stage paint.911hillclimber wrote: Out of interest please, how much paint did you use? I'm heading in the same direction soon but champagne yellow, in cellulose.
Usage depends a lot on the paint scheme you're using and how transparent final colour is; generally 5 litres of solid plus activators is enough for 3 coats on a whole shell. Metallic colours would require the same amount although these thin out more and generally you'd have more top coats plus lacquer, 5 for example on Murph's Targa.

Thanks guys.

Thanks for the usage Darren.
Cellulose because I can DIY the paint in my garage like I did in 1989.
And I've never sprayed anything else.

Masked and ready for paint....

...on the last couple of 911's we painted we worked hard on getting the overspray just right....on this one we worked hard on having none at all....

....first coat.....eh, Rich, I think you missed a bit!

....not quite yet but I'm hoping it will. Thanks KeithKS wrote: OK, it looks awesome!
Painting complete and left to cook.....

.....our booth is a little too big for this type of work and ideally you'd have a nice compact booth that can get up to high temperatures. This is when 'secondary flow' kicks in, you can whack on the paint and leave it to settle and smooth.
We don't have that luxury although a good painter knows the environment he's working in and adapts his style to suit. Although our booth still gets pretty warm we have to live with a little orange peel to begin with although there's plenty of material left to colour sand it down to a glassy finish...

Re: Mongrel Street Racer
I know tangerine is 'such' a predictable colour although it still looks pretty yummy and is what I've always longed for.....

....the gutter seems look even better in colour, one of my favourite areas......to think Barry unpicked poorly fitted rear quarters and added a new roof!....arrow straight and as perfect as factory, a testament to the Metal Meister's skills
