Having just returned from a business trip and on my regular visit to the DDK forum I have just come across your posting directed to me in Open forum.
Firstly may I say I am somewhat surprised that you did not choose to contact me directly to discuss the matter – website, telephone, fax, letter rather than open Forum but that said, your comments do require response – however, I feel (and I’m sure the moderators agree) that an Open club forum is NOT the place to discuss YOUR private business.
However, you have invited my response in Open forum which is as follows: -
The liaison between Classic Roadsters Ltd. and Mohr Innovationen is well documented on open forum, on our website (www.classicroadsters.co.uk) and also in our brochures. Had you chosen to take any of those sources of reference, your own queries would have been answered (i.e. “Who is Mohr” and their connection). We are in fact extremely proud to be associated with one of Germany’s most respected and longest established automotive companies.
Firstly, for the avoidance of future doubt I am very happy to categorically state that NOWHERE within the above mentioned advertising and promotion is there ANY mention or picture of your car (ex. car?). Any subsequent reference has been made historically, and indeed was only brought about initially in response to correct an erroneous statement, posted by you on the DDK forum.
Secondly – you made a statement (DDK forum 19/7/2004) that your car was - ….”a Martin Walker body with a one off custom tubular frame”…………..
I spotted the car on the Forum and realised I had seen it before in Mohr’s archive material so I am happy to make this statement based on records of fact - Your car was in fact made by Legend Motor Company (commissioned in March 1999) up to the point of a painted, trimmed, upholstered rolling body / chassis with the engine and transmission (supplied by yourself according to the documentation) installed together with instruments and a prototype exhaust system and many other components (all documented). The client file shows your car as having chassis # LMC 047 003 550R 0792886 and the body # is the same but with the suffix “RHD”.
The car was trimmed by Roy Field, and the paint by Dean Holloway under the instruction of LMC. All the foregoing can be substantiated by the considerable archives held by Mohr – and of course the people involved in the build. The body was moulded by RBF Fibreglass Ltd. from moulds owned by Mohr – not an “M” or a “W” anywhere in sight. The Rolling chassis was displayed by Legend Motor Company at the NEC Classic Car show (photos available) and then at the next show as an almost completed car (photos also available).
It cannot be an M&W AND a Mohr based car as such a statement would be ‘contradictory’. I am not making a judgement call here, just trying to correct an historically incorrect statement, made for whatever reason. I have full documentary evidence to support ALL of the above statements.
Mohr and Legend collaborated on the development of this car from chassis # 1. The moulds were Mohr owned and the chassis a joint design / development. #2 chassis went to Germany where parallel development continued – up to the point of the 550 now being offered by Classic Roadsters in its currently developed format.
That I think answers all of your queries and informs “other admirers of your car” as to the origination. Nobody denies that you (or others) wrote the cheques, but history is based on fact, only the future is based on speculation.
It’s a beautiful car and you have every right to be proud of it - That beauty is brought about by its lineage and provenance in the same way as any other classic vehicle is.
You may like to know that I also have chapter and verse in terms of ALL of the build pictures and documentation to support these statements, courtesy of the Mohr archives so PLEASE, lets agree to leave it there and agree that you were mistaken - it was after all a little while ago......!
