Oh yes another 1973 rhd 2.4E
Firstly I would like to say a huge thankyou to all the guys who made me so welcome at CLM and was astounded by the genuine interest in classic 911's and also the wealth of knowledge and detail you all have is truely remarkable.....
Well this thread has started a little sooner than anticipated but a failed MOT after CLM and a little investigation work has seen to that. Fortunately I'm already booked in with Barry 'early' next year (date tbc....) so am going to try and get organised ahead of that to speed things up after.....yeah yeah you all thinking...How naive is this guy???.....very!
Parts fitted night before MOT
All pretty pointless....
Story of the car is original colour Dalmation Blue, through a period of hillclimb in late 80's and early 90's
was white and then back to its original Dalmation blue some time after following some sort of 'mild' resto which appears to have been front end panels mainly and patching up elsewhere.
First pictures of what I unearthed after 5 minutes in a couple of areas with a long screwdriver and wire brush on grinder...
Would have driven a little slower in France had I seen this first

Doesn't look like any MOT failure to me! …..
….best of luck with the resto, at least we know you have a good strong engine!

Yeah well might be a little heavier when completed now with correct thickness of metalwork. Mmmm a lick of paint can hide a multitude of sins....but guess you all know that!
Anyway forgot to mention a trip to see Mike Bainbridge in March who did compression test and set throttle bodies along with service.
And garage on his Ind Est did a spot of welding too

Such a common sight and a bitch of an area to repair esp if you want a 'Barry job'.
Wonder why Dansk have not made a repair panel yet?
Hope to see more shell pics please.

Re: Oh yes another 1973 rhd 2.4E
Thanks guys. Will defo have a look at your thread Kieron! Theres some great parts on that site too but going to get car stripped first then visit by Barry with his 'special hammer' to make a parts list later this year/early next.
Incidentally the photos around the rear suspension were temporarily repaired by Mike Bainbridges' local body shop, did a great job but quite apparent it is much more widespread then originally thought...
Anyway doors off, all glass removed and half of carpets/seats removed.
First technical question during this journey is I have two seats which appear to be two passenger side seats and also have different seat frames. Any input would be gratefully appreciated. Ideally I would like the frames sorting and seats re-upholstered using as much of original leather as possible. (Any suggestions for repairing frames and also good re-upholsterer would be appreciated)
The current thinking about the resto is to use as much original parts as possible as conscious most of body will be replaced...!!! I dont want a pristine showroom car but must be well sorted body/engine wise but maintain some character obtained over the past 40 years.
Plan this week is to remove front wings, boot, bonnet and make a start on engine removal.
Incidentally is there a design to weld a frame to sit and move the body on or are they economically viable to purchase new/secondhand. Ideally a rotisserie to make underseal removal easier.....

The double locker seat base is a correct 1973 one ( the one with alloy link rod between the two runner lockers)
