Road trip play list suggestions

Post by wildtexas »

So it looks as though I have a road trip coming up moving my 912 from Cheshire over to it's new home in Co. Fermanagh, Northern Ireland.

Driving across to Holyhead and then up from Dublin. I'll need some good tunes to keep me entertained.

I have a pretty broad taste, but not so keen on metal and rap,

What ya got for me?

Matt

P.S. Any Ulster based DDkers out there, or Ireland in General?

You can't beat the sound of the engine. Open the window and enjoy!

I can hear my wife now the new silencer is on...

Music:

Lots of variety I find is the trick, you can't run at the red line for the whole journey.
So:

Some Santana, slow and easy to warm things up.
Some Led Zep to get the tempo up and liven the soul
Some acoustic guitar to appreciate real skill
Touch of Classic that you know already, skip on the weird stuff
A good female singer from the last 10 years (loads to choose from), touch of fantasy...
Some Beatles to remind you how good they were and still are.

Finish with Route 66 from Cars to wake you up and get you in the mood for anything!

I quite agree with the sentiment of listening to the car. I never play the radio in the 12 while driving.

Unfortunately I will be towing it and in a mundane modern.

So tunes required.

I'll through in one or two of my old favourites to kick things off.

No rain by blind melon
Lovely day by bill Withers
A bit on the mellow side

On the acoustic guitar side, there will be plenty by Rodrigo y Gabrielle .

chas and dave: aint no pleasin you. The greatest lament to the cruelty of the fairer sex i've ever heard
mister B : the tweed album
public image limited: this is what you want
anything by motorhead or the fall
marillion: fugazi - just for the "this is the biggest load of tosh " factor, also, just thinking "this bloke's real name is Derek Dick, ahahahaha" keeps me amused for hours.
i ludicrous: 20 years in show business.
definitely NOT the beatles - they ruined music.
There may also be others....

ooh yes, Frank Zappa's "flakes" - it'll remind you of all the "fun" times youve had trying to get people to do work on your car....there's a few lines of this song in my sig PLUS if there's any other song in the universe where they break off mid way through to do an amusing pastiche of bob dillon complaining about his car mechanic, I'd like to know about it.

also, if youre unaccompanied then you can indulge all your "guilty pleasures" in music. For me this woudl include Simply Red and the Sisters of Mercy. But not genesis, apart maybe from their greatest ever tune "i cant dance".
Also, get some Humble Pie and Orange Juice (the band not the drink although you should of course stock up on refreshments but thats for another thread...NB pickled onion monster munch)

I think the French air may have gone to Will's head but agree 100% regarding Pickled Onion Monster Munch.

Such a personal thing a playlist.....but after a recent jaunt to France I realised that even though I like the way my car sounds, after 10 hours it is abit repetitive :)

However my new bluetooth speaker worked a trick.....

Anything but reggae. I just don't get reggae. Ska - yes, reggae - no. Pop, rock, soul, funk, metal, indie, dance, rap, R&B, rock 'n' roll, old show tunes (yep, my guilty pleasure) etc all get played depending on my mood and where I am going. But not reggae. No.
