All great work Darren and having just seen the shell in the metal, pre-primer, it looked fantastic.. especially all the detail work that's gone into strengthening.
All your pics are good, but I like that rollover hoop shot

Re: Mongrel Street Racer
Its looking great Darren, huge admiration for all the well reasoned modifications you are making, I don't need to tell you it will be a very special car! Whenever I read these sort of threads it makes me realise how much easier it is to restore to factory finish (like mine) as you don't have to think outside the box.

…..don't totally agree with your comment Jos; lots of pressure when going back to factory original to get the details right (must say being done VERY well on your car
….plus I'm just making it up as I go along and copying many of the cool mods and details I like the look of, even this one…

….thinking outside the box?…..that's being taken care of here!
Cheers,
Darren

That is a very practical mod!
Did you add anything to the 'arch' left to restore a bit of strength or brace the tunnel to the torque tube?

Re: Mongrel Street Racer
In praise of Mr Carter……
I've always liked the quote…'Don't Sweat the Small Stuff - and it's all Small Stuff'…..
….trouble is, I like the Small Stuff!
If you've followed this thread you'll know that this was originally a sunroof car to which Barry's grafted a new roof…you also may have noted that new rear quarters were previously fitted (fitted with a crow bar!) and these were carefully removed by Barry and re-used.
Well today Rich prepped the roof and I watched as he carefully masked a thin strip along the gutter line….the seams needed a thin sliver of filler to tidy up the edges as they've been unpicked and re-formed, has to be done carefully as there's nothing worse than gutters full of filler..…
…it got me thinking…...new roof, poorly fitted rear quarters, taken off, re-fitted (properly), arrow straight gutters, microns of filler to tidy and can you see the join?…...can you thump!
Looks original and as good as any car that left the factory!
I know I've sang Barry's praises before although I'm as guilty as the rest of us in letting details of some pretty fine craftsmanship waft over my head…….but damn that man is good!
Photos don't do his work justice!….
…...Legend
…….

Re: Mongrel Street Racer
More fine jewelry from the hands of Ben Coles…. http://www.bencoles.co.uk/ ….
When looking at a brace for the MFI pump I did consider alternatives that supplied the arm support only…..although this would have given me the right 'look', the injection pump would have still been fixed directly to the engine block and been prone to shocks and vibration..…..Ben's kit includes a perfectly cast correct base plate and rubbers as per original items…. together with the brace arm these help eliminate fuel air bubbles or froth inside the injection pump delivering fuel in a more efficient pure way….
…anyhow that's the theory!……
…..they look pretty cool too!

Re: Mongrel Street Racer
that looks a very tasty bit of a bling Darren
have never heard of these before and Tuthills would have made some margin supplying me one if they could have
do I need one?
am all for good engineering solutions
bit like the teddy bear plate in the gearbox... many people dont bother and you cant see it but it adds strength
ps I know its not period correct but i'm very happy with my Wevo shifter...so much more precise...would be perfect for the Mongrel
