Look what turned up in the post this morning - along with my copy of Classic Porsche - I love it when the postman brings great stuff - rather than brown envelopes from HMRC

These have been refurbished by Julian Reap - and he's done a fantastic job - The theme was conservation, so the bezels and glass have been sorted and the cases cleaned (but not repainted, still kept all of the date marks on the back) but the numerals have been kept 'bone white' and the needles are a custom job.

The car has had some work done on the dials in the past and some of the needles were replaced. The speedo is new (to me, but dated 10 70, so within a month of build - that will do for me). But the oil and petrol gauges were untouched and have distinctly 'sun-faded' needles. So overall there was a range of colours on the needles.

So I asked Julian to replicate the sun faded appearance of the oil and petrol gauges and he has done a lovely job - apparently he airbrushed the needles to make them all match.

I think they look fantastic. The photos don't do the needles justice - they look super-cool in real life. And will have to do a trial fit later to see how they look in the car....

Hi - got me going then, had to go back and check my 'before' photos.....If you are asking whether the lights on the oil gauge had been switched, I don't think so - the orange one at the bottom is the generator light...

Anyway, this is how it looked before - definitely looking better now

That is very much the plan. I have to have it ready for CLM.

The plan goes like this:

This week, Mike is coming down tomorrow, we're going to do brakes, oil, fuel & suspension check & get it back on it's wheels - maybe (just maybe) get the engine in

First week of March, John is coming down and we're going to do the electrics

Last week of March it goes to Alan's for the seals, glass, interior, targa roof, trim, detail checks & MOT

First week of June, it should come back from Alan's and then I want to take it to Centre Gravity to get the suspension set-up, then I've got a couple of weeks to run it in and see if there are any bits we've missed or aren't working properly.....

Then I am hoping I will be able to drive to CLM with some semblance of confidence.....but you know how these things are, there's bound to be stuff that isn't right, so I will be bringing a big tool kit with me

And some European breakdown cover.....

Car is looking great and attention to detail something else!

I've been meaning to contact you for a while as yes, now working in Cambridge. I'm currently staying with friends during the week and returning North at the weekend but will be moving down properly the first week of March....and bringing your coco mats with me that I found again the other day under a bed

If you ever need someone to assist (even if it's just to make tea or for encouragement) before it goes to Alan's just shout as I'm only going to be along the A14.

Will try and pop over when John's there too as it'll be good to catch up with you both.
