some great details there Darren 8)

Its easy to forget how much work / hours is involved to get a shell rebuilt to that standard.

Look forward to the next stage of the build 8)

Darryn, Barry
With so much craftsmanship put into those details, it's a shame to cover them with paint..why don't you clear lacquer them on the inside of the compartments, it would have a true engineering honesty to exhibit the architecture of the car, express them, don't mask them

Top stuff and I'm glad to see the obligatory farewell pose - Barry has a gift in being able to pull the same sombre face yet communicate his joy in seeing another one complete!

Thanks for all the feedback chaps...

To be fair, although a chunk of time has gone into the mods most of the effort went into getting the knarly shell straight and solid.....EVERYTHING needed sorting! :?

Just as Barry thought he was close to completion I sent him this little list! ....

1. Jack Point Strengthening – with slanted slits
2. Engine Bay - strut tops (both sides) strengthening
3. Engine Bay - corner rear chassis leg (by strut tops) strengthening
4. Engine Bay rear engine mounts strengthening
5. Torque tube centre tunnel strengthening (part supplied)
6. Outer torque tube strengthening plate where suspension arm mounts
7. Additional torque tube strengthening
8. Front inner wings strengthening plate by arb mount
9. Front strut brace (part supplied)
10. Box-in/strengthen rear arb mounting brackets
11. additional wing brackets?
12. Smooth torsion holes on rear quarters
13. Harness fixing points strengthening – outer sill and centre tunnel
14. Roll Hoop plates
15. Centre tunnel mod to enable gearbox removal
16. Brackets for fuel tank strap
17. Blanking plate for engine lid and bonnet catches
18. Delete bonnet pull tube
19. Delete engine lid tube
20. Delete hole for engine lid pull NS door shut
21. Rear parcel shelf twin harness plates
22. Lightly rolled wheel arches
23. Inner door frame cut out mod
24. NS inner wing captive nuts for oil cooler (same as those present on OS inner wing)
25. Slanted slits to OS front bumper
26. Remove flare rear bumper
27. Slanted slits to rear bumper
28. Blank exhaust hole rear bumper
29. Twin cut outs for exhaust on rear bumper below over-riders
30. Battery box delete plate
31. Twin coil plate/bracket
32. Remove engine bay sound pad tabs
33. Extend window frame legs with fixing point

We haven't quite managed to knock everything off the list and will sort the final few jobs before moving on to paint.

Cheers,

Nice idea JP although this one is going to be a bit of a sleeper.....a fairly standard looking car on the outside....you'll have to look hard to see the detail.

Me too Jos......lightweight paint in this case without underseal and again with my own little twist....and as Chris mentions, very, very Tangerine! 8)

Hi Darren

The shell looks amazing, it’s going to be fantastic once its complete.

It will be interesting to see which early car gets used the most once you have them both available. A real luxury to have a choice. 8)

Darren - this is quality. So much detail. I think you've got some value for money there. A unique shell. Great job :-)

Barry - this is a truly epic job. Love it.

A slight change of spec….

As I've mentioned previously (once or twice! ) the plan was to keep everything on this car pre-78.

It was suggested that my original idea of a single trombone oil cooler might be a little lacking with circa 250BHP to chill and a 3.2 matrix cooler might be a better bet….this was to be my little post-78 'cheat'.

But then I noticed the cross over pipes Gib Bosworth had fitted to his light yellow ST 8) …..

Image

….mated to twin 28-row brass early IB oil coolers I figured Gib's solution is much more in keeping with my build and a very cool solution in the knowledge that I'm unlikely to ever find (or afford!) an original set of Behr's……so this is the new plan and I'm no longer cheating…..well it ain't a good idea if nobody copies it! ……

Image

Another change to spec…..

Whilst looking out for a ZF LSD I came across a very concise appraisal of diff options currently available and a number of recommendations for the LSD supplied by Guard Transmissions……I sought the advice of Mike Bainbridge and he suggested for various reasons the GT diff would indeed be a superior option for me… http://www.guardtransmissionllc.com/ ...Many thanks to Matt Monson at GT for all his help and advice, a great guy to deal with.

Not sure if binning the ZF route is a cheat but at least you can't see this one……..which I think is a great, great shame!…….
