Super unleaded ?
I was told today that I should be using super unleaded
What do the real experts think?
Any comments or guidance would be appreciated
Keep the faith

Re: Super unleaded ?
Super unleaded should reduce the risk of fuel leaks as it has a lower content of bio fuel which degrades old fuel lines. If your car has new fuel lines and is stock I would think normal unleaded is fine as our cars were built to run on the lower quality petrol of the 50s & 60s

Re: Super unleaded ?
Its not just the fuel lines though , its the rest of the rubber seals, diaphrams etc etc that are in contact with the fuel .. the ethanol will damage the older type of rubbers ... in theory Super unleaded is low or has no ethanol blended in with it .
Use Super purely on the fact its low in Ethanol
On that note, I havn't worked out wether the new Shell Nitro is low in Ethanol or not ?

Re: Super unleaded ?
My 356C with has a ported 1720 with webers and runs noticeably sweeter higher up the revs -and more economically - on super unleaded. Its usually fed Tesco 99 RON and seems a happy little car on that. The low ethanol is a bonus!

Re: Super unleaded ?
Just read this petrol thread. Does anyone use lead replacement in their 356 or VW engines?

Re: Super unleaded ?
Phil,
It is really not about the lead
Our cars do not need lead they have hard valve seats
It is the Ethanol which does the damage to all the soft stuff that it comes in contact with - stay away from it if you can

Re: Super unleaded ?
Thanks Mike
Would the same apply to my camper? Super unleaded in there too?
Just about to fill up the gearbox you rebuilt for me. Any particular brand of oil or any 80w/90?
Thanks

Re: Super unleaded ?
Yes I use super unleaded just because of the ethonol but I read a while back they might increase the content of that stuff in normal unleaded from the 5% and start using it in the super unleaded? Anybody else heard that?
