Vulcan - Falklands bombing raid.

Post by DIRKBROWNFINGER »

The Vulcan is making an appearance next week at Shoreham, I happened across this film on utube. Apologies if it has been posted before. Longest bombing raid in history.

The Pilot, cant remember his name came and gave our local oily rag club a talk on the aircraft and the raid, code name Black Buck there is a book of that name! I found it very interesting and then saw the aircraft at Marham.

Best plane ever.

Though I'm sure I remember it making its 'last ever flight' at Duxford a year or so ago.

Pilot's name was Martin Withers, former colleague of my Dad's.

Chatting to Dad at the weekend it seems this is the last season as they have run out of engines (had an issue last year where they left something in a duct and it lunched the engine on startup, I believe.)

If you get the chance, it's got to be something to see - I was spoilt when younger living on the bases and watching them take off and land.

Search out the book Vulcan 607, it details exactly what went into the Falklands raid, its an unbelievable read, watched the Vulcan last weekend at Dawlish airshow, a wonderful plane!

Thanks for the link, Dirk. Been fortunate enough to see the Vulcan on a number of occasions and it never fails to terrify me. Glad it is/was on our side.

Don't know if Eurofighter is there Sunday, but if it is, it'll actually drown out your car Andy. Awsome!!!!!

I saw the Vulcan flyiing over our house on Saturday. Wife wasn't very pleased that I nearly crashed the car looking at it. Didn't realise they weren't a common sight. Looked quite slow to my untrained eye.

The slowness is part of the beauty of them. They just hang there, blotting out the sun.

It's the noise it makes in a tight turn that gives me goosebumps - like something out of 'The Exorcist'...!
